A New Wave of Digital Creativity! 💻🌊

We are bursting with gratitude to the BDO Foundation for their incredibly generous donation of 20 laptops for our Alon Hub workshops!

Our Wavemakers experienced the magic of digital design by diving straight into Canva. They didn't just learn a new skill—they channeled their creativity into becoming community advocates! Using the laptops, the kids designed compelling posters on themes like street cleanliness and community responsibility. Their imagination and talent lit up the room! ✨

A Glimpse Inside the Alon Hub! 🧠✨

This quarter, our Wavemakers proved that creativity knows no limits! In our Hub workshops, we're not just providing tools—we’re changing mindsets.

We saw brilliant, resourceful thinking in our Wackiest Ideas Challenge (mini umbrellas for shoes!) and profound self-reflection in our sessions on purpose. As one Wavemaker shared, "Hindi kailangan maging sikat para tumulong."

Highlights of the last sessions:
- Creative Confidence: Wavemakers dove into LEGO, drawing tablets, and crochet kits to bring their ideas to life.
- Digital Skills: The group learned Canva and used digital design for community advocacy posters on street cleanliness and flooding.
- Empathy in Action: We saw true teamwork through our kids teaching each other how to thread needles—a small moment of big collaboration. No one gets left behind!

Alon on Wheels is committed to teaching our youth how to navigate a complex world. In our recent sessions, we practiced mindfulness—slowing down to notice the world around us, especially through food! 😋

This exercise in observation led to some profound realizations:
- "Minsan parang 'di masarap pero masarap pala 'pag tinikman na." (Sometimes things you dismiss hold hidden value.)
- "Walang masama kung itatry mo." (There's no harm in trying.)

This shift in perspective is the true ripple effect of our work. We're teaching our Wavemakers to be present and appreciate the hidden opportunities around them.

At Alon, we don’t just walk with the child—we walk with the whole family. 🌱

Our wellness sessions for parents are a quiet, sacred pause in the rush of everyday life. A space to breathe. To remember who they are beyond their roles. To reconnect with their dreams, their worth, and the gentle truth that they matter too.

Because when parents are seen, supported, and strong, their children feel it. Growth begins at home, and love that overflows is the kind that ripples far and wide.

🧠✨ In our third Creative Problem Solving workshop last, we warmed up our brains (and our imaginations!) with playful activities and wacky inventions! 💡

We kicked things off with “This is not a pencil…” where a pencil magically transformed into a wand, a knife, or even a laser gun—because why not? The kids then teamed up to brainstorm brand new products using random everyday objects like a candle, sticky notes, or a high-heeled shoe. One group even combined a hairbrush and umbrella to make a paintball-style catapult! 🎨☂️🔥

Best of all, we saw everyone thinking outside the box, laughing together, and embracing pagiging madiskarte, malikhain, at maparaan—essential traits for any future entrepreneur. 🚀

🌊 Creative Problem-Solving in Action! 🛠️✨

On February 19 and 21, we continued our Creative Problem-Solving journey with the Alon kids! This time, we explored different ways to think on our feet, adapt, and create solutions.

🤸 Pose to Solve – Kids paired up and struck quick poses to show how they’d rescue a tita’s lost ring or save a neighbor’s cat from a tall post. Lots of laughs, but also some clever thinking!

💡 Many Ways to Solve a Problem – From brainstorming uses for everyday items like bottles and bike helmets to building inventions for real-life challenges, they showed that resourcefulness and creativity go hand in hand. Barangay K2 even prototyped a robotic cardboard hand, while Barangays K1 and Marytown role-played their solutions!

📝 Overcoming Hesitation – We wrapped up by reflecting on what holds us back from taking action. The kids wrote and drew personal challenges they’ve faced and the steps they’ve taken or can take to overcome them, adding their ideas to our Freedom Wall. It was heartwarming to see them recognize shared struggles and encourage each other!

From small ideas to big breakthroughs, creativity starts with just one step. We're excited for what’s next! 🚀

🌊 Kicking Off Wave 2 of Alon’s Mobile Workshops! 🚀

From February 12-14, we launched our first sessions of 2025 in barangays K1, K2, Marytown, and Daan Tubo! This cycle, we’re diving into Creative Problem Solving, starting with fun icebreakers, personal reflections, and setting intentions for the journey ahead.

In the Pose-a-Bit activity, kids acted out moments from their holiday break like a game of charades! Through group activities, name plates, and the Commitment Board, they explored their comfort and challenge zones, deciding if they were ready to create waves this year. 🌊✨ Some jumped in headfirst, while others took their time, and that’s okay! Growth starts at your own pace.
