A Letter to (All) My Students

Dear students,
Recently I've seen lots of social media posts about students wanting to hear " Okay lang bumagsak anak", " Huwag mong ipressure ang sarili mo"etc. But let me tell you this, the REAL world doesn't work that way. Doctors and nurses cannot say " Okay lang magkamali ang mahalaga natuto" if a patient died because of wrong diagnoses. Police cannot say the same if they imprisoned or killed an innocent man . Jeepney drivers cannot just say "Nagkamali lang ng ikot" if they bump the other car .In reality , its not okay to fail - doctors and nurses cannot fail because the life of their patients is at stake. Teachers must not fail because the future of their students is in their hands. The police cannot fail because our safety is in danger. The chefs of your favorite resto and even the waitresses cannot fail because you might not enjoy your food or get sick from the food. Drivers can't fail because you might not reach your destination and most importantly your life is in their hands. You'll be fired from your job if your motto is " okay na yan" , "pasado na yan". Unlike school where you just sit and wait for your allowance while doing nothing , you can't just sit while waiting for your paycheck, you have to work hard. Unlike school, where your teachers calls your parent for a failing grade ,your boss don't have to call them before you get fired if you failed to do your job right. And while it is true that grades doesn't reflect what you know, it reflects the quality of your effort . It's not true that your grades is not everything because if you look for a job, the first thing employers look at is your grade. You can't tell them that your grade doesn't reflect what you learned or your ability (they won't believe you) because it does.You say you're not challenged every time you hear harsh words from your parents or teachers? Maybe it's not because you're not challenged , maybe you're not just up for the challenge. The world is tough and cruel - so if you cannot handle the pressures of school how can you even handle the pressures of the real world? A word of advice, "pagbutihin ang pag-aaral" while you're young because regret always comes last.

The official "Students' Voice Box" for High School students is about to open on January 15, 2018 (Monday).

This "Students' Voice Box" is one of the HS Student Council's platforms, which is created for students, to bring up their suggestions, to voice out their opinions, and to express their insights, ideas and sentiments concerning their welfare and the school as well.

You may or may not indicate your name. Rest assured that whatever you put in the Students' Voice Box will be held confidential among the Student Council Officers and the concerned school authorities.
Please be reminded to use appropriate and polite expressions and language. Foul, vulgar, profane and indecent words like cursing are strictly not allowed. You may express your feelings or sentiments without being rude, mean or harsh, since we are being educated in a Christian school.

This is an opportunity for you to be heard.
