A WALK THROUGH THE HISTORY OF
MANUEL LUIS QUEZON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
The school is currently situated at MRB Pilot Drive, Brgy. Commonwealth, 2nd District, Quezon City The land that it occupied is a parcel of land owned by the National Government center for Housing Project (NGHCP). It has a land area of 9,584 sq. At the façade of the school is the MRB (Medium Rise Buildings), where majority of th
e school’s clientele resides. Around its vicinity are the Health Center, Iglesiani Cristo, MabutingPastol, Jehovah’s Witnesses Temple and other small religious factions.Despite of the presence of different religious sects, respect for other’s belief is still predominantly observed by its populace. The presence of various establishments, government and private institutions around the environs of the school serve as sources of income for its constituents. Some of them are vendors in Commonwealth Market while others are Security Guards, Call Center Agents, Drivers. Howbeit, there are some professionals in the community. It was October 1999 when the school became independent from Commonwealth School-
Main by the virtue of Ordinance No SP-808 s. 99 in the 39th regular session, an ordinance renaming Commonwealth Elementary School, NGC Annex to Manuel Luis Quezon Elementary School, a fitting tribute to the late President Manuel Luis Quezon, who is considered the father of Quezon City. From there on, Dr. Robert S. Macasiebwas appointed to be the first principal of the school. Then, Dr. Lilia Garcia arrived to fill in the shoes and assumed the vacated post of principal of the school. Years after the founding of the school nine (9) buildings were constructed. The Liban1 building was constructed in 1996. A two-storeyLiban 2 building was built in 1998. Then, in the year 2000, another two-storey building, Liban 3 was added to to the existing facilities of the school. This was followed by the construction of a 3-storey SB Hall building which was funded by the Local Government Unit (LGU). The DepEd funded the establishments of three DepEd buildings in the school in 2007 to 2013. It was again another glorious year for the school, a two (2) storey SPED building was constructed in 2010 funded by the National Government to provide conducive learning place for the unprecendented rise in number of pupils under Special Education. Through the act of benevolence of Ateneo de Manila University, a two (2) storey building was constructed in 2012. This was primarily used for the Feeding Program of the said National Government Organization (NGO). MLQES with its existence is remembered with pride and its great achievements and triumphs. The school has accomplished a great deal in every area. It has proven to be a force to reckon with. Over the years, the quality of education has been given the imprimatur of excellence. It has silently but relentlessly competed and triumphed. On February 2010, the school was given a commendation and recognition for being chosen as exemplary school at the DepEd-NCR during the initial implementation of the Accreditation Program for Public Elementary Schools (APPES) and for subsequently granted Level 1 Accreditation status for two years, S.Y. 2010-2012 under the able leadership of Dr. Elvira D.V. This has been made possible with the relentless efforts to maintain high standards of the MLQES’ teaching and non-teaching staff and with the headship of School Principal IV
Dr. Rodolfo B. Modelowas appointed as the new principal .Believing in the school's potential for development and excellence, he instituted various innovations in encompassing quality education in spite of his short term stay as the principal of the school. A progressive development upgrading instruction and curriculum was instituted simultaneously with the professionalization of the MLQES working force. Panganiban succeeded the position and became the fifth principal of the school. During her term, she wasempowered to particularly focus on the curriculum and discipline, the school's well-being and standard, with special emphasis on the cleanliness of the school. On January 2015, Dr. Wilma P. Rosalassumed the position as principal of Manuel Luis Quezon Elementary School. She significantly put importance to transformational style of leadership and anchored her management in the four (4) guiding principles of the Revised School Based Mangement. Her primary focus is to make positive and meaningful change happen inevery member of the school community towards the realization of DepEd vision and mission. These resulted in the streamlining the school for a more efficient and effective delivery of quality K to 12 education. In her term today, various programs and developments are undertaken and surely will be still undertaken as means for consultation, cascading, and eventual owning of the vision and mission. At present, this institution caters to 7,136pupils comprising Kindergarten to Grade VI including SPED and ALS served by 166 proactive, committed and globally competitive teachers. The school is in its 18th year of existence and the educational priorities set for the school year 2015-2016 are focused on quality instruction, access equity, cultural, sports and the development of values and desirable attitudes. The school has strived to its best to achieve the thrust, thus producing creative, versatile, nationalistic, productive and useful citizens thru the different activities like the Continuous Improvement Program, Quipper School, Cornerstone Feeding Program, etc. and avenues that the school has been involved in. The coming year is defining and significant, and I am sure that MLQES is prepared to take on the challenges of the world outside the cocoon of school life. The endeavor will be to continue to improve the quality of school system, increase standards in all aspects, identify core strengths and prioritize goals and work on them.
