🎆 One chapter closes, and a new story begins! 📖✨
During the post-Mass celebration and candle-lighting ceremony, the graduating batch gathered in reflection and gratitude as they commemorated the culmination of their academic journey.
As candles illuminated the evening, students shared a meaningful moment of remembrance, hope, and anticipation for the future. The ceremony concluded with a dazzling fireworks display, marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another for the graduating Creative Writing students. 🕯️❤️🔥
And just like that—these memories become chapters we'll carry wherever our stories take us. 💫

1CW1 presents…. “Between Here and Home”, an anthology consisting four genres of tears and memories; Poerty, Fiction, Creative Non-fiction, and Hybrid works.
Under the guidance of Assoc. Prof Nerisa D. Guevara, each piece reflects the rawest versions of the author’s self, where vulnerability leads to stories that traverse through meaningful art.

There’s a writer in us all! 🔥✍️
Katha-Bayanihan: Buklat at Bigay, our community development event, took place on May 13, 2026, Wednesday, at the San Lorenzo Ruiz & Companion Martyrs Parish, Navotas City.
We were joined by 4th year Creative Writing students and an alumnus: Psalmuel Lasquite, Giannah Erin Ochoa, and Roma Reign Molina. This event is sponsored by Celo & Sons Inc. and partnered with UST History Society and UST AB Chorale. 📚
The day may have passed, but the memories have already been inked unto the pages of the community. 📖✨

Looking back at the Paz Latorena Memorial Lecture 2026 last May 2, headed by the Department of Literature and the Department of Creative Writing, in collaboration with the UST Literary Society and the UST MaKatha Circle. Dr. Luis P. Gatmaitan’s lecture witg the theme 'Panitikan at Lunas' offered a powerful reminder of how medicine and literature can meet in healing.
He spoke of the power of addition, why subtract when you can add? He explained that by combining prescriptions with children’s stories, he showed how storytelling gives the brain a full workout, activating multiple senses, and how children's narratives like 'Mga Kuwento ni Tito Dok help tge young grasp health literacy.
Dr. Gatmaitan also highlighted the biochemical effect of stories, releasing “happy hormones,” and placed this tradition within the lineage of great doctor-writers like Chekhov and Rizal.
It was an afternoon of insights and compassion, proving that words can heal as much as they inspire.
