The National University Commission on Student Elections (NUโCSE) is mandated to administer, supervise, and conduct annual, fair, just, and transparent student elections to uphold the integrity of student governance and ensure the exercise of the studentsโ right to suffrage.
The NUโCSE has been guided by the 2024 Student Election Code, which stipulates in Section 3, Article IV and Section 2, Article V that the termination of office shall be on June 30, 2026 at 12:00 noon;
The 2022 Student Constitution, in Section 18, Article VII, Section 8, Article VIII, and Section 6, Article XI, provides that the term of office shall end on the last Friday of the academic year, which fell on June 5, 2026;
This contradiction has caused confusion among student organizations, with several students contesting the differing stipulations. The transition of office on June 5, 2026 proved impracticable due to finals week, vacancies in student organizations, and the lack of prepared transitioning leaders, resulting in the postponement of the oath of office to June 10, 2026.
Consultations with organizations revealed that many were under the impression that the transition would occur on June 30, consistent with the Election Code, and were not prepared for an earlier date.
