🌍 EARTHQUAKE DRILL

🔹 What Is an Earthquake Drill?

An earthquake drill is a practice activity that helps people prepare for what to do before, during, and after an actual earthquake. It allows everyone—students, teachers, workers, and families—to learn how to stay calm and safe when the ground starts shaking.

Earthquake drills are usually done in schools, offices, and communities as part of disaster preparedness programs.

🔹 Purpose of an Earthquake Drill

1. To teach safety procedures during an earthquake.

2. To reduce panic and confusion during real emergencies.

3. To save lives by training people to act quickly and correctly.

4. To test emergency plans of schools and offices.

🔹 Steps During an Earthquake Drill

🕒 1. Before the Drill

Listen to the instructions from teachers or safety officers.

Know your evacuation route and safe zones.

Secure your belongings and clear walkways.

⚡ 2. During the Drill (Simulation of Earthquake)

When you hear the signal (whistle, bell, or siren), immediately perform the “Duck, Cover, and Hold” technique:

Duck (Drop): Get down on your hands and knees to protect yourself from falling objects.

Cover: Take cover under a sturdy desk or table.

Hold: Hold on to the table legs until the shaking stops.

Stay away from windows, glass, and heavy furniture.

Stay in position until you hear the signal that it’s safe.

🚶 3. After the Drill (Evacuation)

Calmly evacuate the building using the nearest safe exit.

Do not run or push. Walk in an orderly line.

Go to the designated evacuation area.

Teachers or leaders should check attendance to make sure everyone is safe.

Wait for further instructions from safety officers.

🔹 Reminders:

Always stay calm and do not panic.

Follow instructions from your teacher or safety leader.

Never return inside the building until it’s declared safe.

Treat every drill as if it were a real earthquake.
