Sta. Cruz Elementary School ranks second in the 2025 Brigada Eskwela Search in Gonzaga East District
Sta. Cruz Elementary School placed second in the Small Schools – Elementary Category during the 2025 Search for Brigada Eskwela Outstanding Implementing Schools in Gonzaga East District. The activity was conducted in line with Division Memorandum No. 256, s. 2025, which aims to recognize schools that demonstrated compliance with Brigada Eskwela standards.
The school participated in the district-level evaluation and focused on meeting the criteria set in the memorandum. These include scope of work accomplished, impact to the learners, community engagement, resource mobilization, and documentation and reporting. Sta. Cruz Elementary School organized activities and efforts that addressed each of these areas. Repairs, cleaning, and preparations were done to ensure that the school environment was ready for the opening of classes.
The success of this effort is credited to the planning done prior to implementation. The School Brigada Eskwela Team met to create a work plan that outlined specific tasks, schedules, and assigned responsibilities. Coordination with stakeholders was also done in advance to ensure support and cooperation. Teachers, parents, barangay officials, alumni, and other community members took part in the preparations. The recognition received by Sta. Cruz Elementary School reflects the outcome of the combined efforts of all stakeholders.
“We may be a small school, but our hearts and commitment are big. We did our best to meet the standards of the Brigada Eskwela framework, and this recognition is already a great honor,” shared Mrs. Jonalyn T. Lucas, the school head, as well as the Brigada Eskwela Coordinator.

SCES and Somejo family renew partnership for education
SSS Scholarship Program, Mini-Library, and Book donations continue
Sta. Cruz Elementary School has renewed its partnership with the Somejo family through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) held recently. Representing the Somejo family was Mrs. Wevelyn Somejo-Selestine, reaffirming their commitment to support educational programs for learners.
This continuing partnership is undertaken in honor of the late Saturnina Saliganan Somejo, whose legacy of valuing education and service lives on through these initiatives.
The renewed agreement strengthens the collaboration between the school and the family, aiming to improve learner outcomes, enhance the school environment, and increase community involvement. It also formalizes joint efforts in implementing programs such as Brigada Eskwela, Brigada Pagbasa, Adopt-a-School, and other learner support initiatives. The partnership promotes shared leadership and active community participation in education.
This collaboration began through the initiative of Dr. Sharon I. Pulido, former school head of SCES and now school principal of Cabiraoan Elementary School and District-In-Charge of Gonzaga East District. She initiated the Saturnina Saliganan Somejo (SSS) Scholarship Program, along with the donation of a mini-library and books, in partnership with the Somejo family.
The educational support has continued under the leadership of Mrs. Jovelyn C. Sajor, and remains active today with Mrs. Jonalyn T. Lucas as the current school head.
Through this renewed MOA, Sta. Cruz ES and the Somejo family continue to work hand in hand to provide learners with access to better educational opportunities and resources.
