[๐ฅ๐๐๐๐ก๐ง๐๐ฌ ๐๐ข๐ก๐๐๐จ๐๐๐] Purpose took root and passion found its place as the USeP School of Medicine (SoM) community came together for SIBOL 2026: USeP SoM General Assembly and Freshmen Orientation on June 1, 2026. Guided by the theme, โGrowing with Purpose, Healing with Passion,โ the gathering formally welcomed the new Level I medical students into a community bound by excellence, service, compassion, and lifelong learning.
The event was more than just a welcome program; it served as a powerful introduction to the values and culture of the USeP School of Medicine. With inspiring messages from faculty and student leaders, meaningful discussions, and engaging interactions among freshmen, upperclassmen, and mentors, the event created an atmosphere of encouragement and solidarity. It reminded every aspiring physician that the journey to becoming a doctor is never a solitary one.
During the assembly, students were urged to approach the challenges of medical education with resilience and purpose. The event fostered camaraderie among future healthcare professionals and strengthened the sense of belonging that is essential for navigating the rigorous demands of medical training. It also provided incoming students with opportunities to build connections, gain valuable insights, and start their medical journey with confidence and determination.

[๐ฅ๐๐๐] The transition from medical student to frontline healthcare provider officially began on June 3, 2026, as 69 medical clerks from the University of Southeastern Philippines School of Medicine (USeP SoM), Batch Sigay, commenced their clinical clerkship at the Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC) in Barangay Apokon, Tagum City.
The deployment marks a significant milestone in the medical education of Batch Sigay, as it transitions future physicians into the clinical phase of their training where theoretical knowledge meets real-world patient care. This batch consists of 69 medical clerks, organized into 12 groups, with each group assigned to a specific hospital department and clinical rotation. Throughout the program, the clerks are required to complete 2,080 hours of clinical training, gaining hands-on experience under the guidance of medical specialists, consultants, and healthcare professionals.
Before their official deployment, the medical clerks participated in a comprehensive orientation aimed at familiarizing them with hospital operations, clinical protocols, patient safety standards, ethical responsibilities, and professional expectations. The discussions focused on the role of medical clerks within the healthcare team, appropriate patient interactions, hospital policies, documentation procedures, infection prevention measures, and the importance of maintaining professionalism, accountability, and compassion in every clinical encounter. The orientation also highlighted teamwork, effective communication, and adherence to the highest standards of patient-centered care.
The deployment represents a crucial stage in the development of competent and compassionate physicians. Through exposure to various specialities and healthcare settings, the clerks will strengthen their clinical reasoning, diagnostic skills, and decision-making abilities while developing a deeper understanding of the realities and demands of medical practice.
Aligned with Sustainable Development Goals 3: Good Health and Well-Being and 4: Quality Education, the clerkship program reinforces USeP and DRMC's commitment to producing highly skilled healthcare professionals capable of delivering quality, accessible, and patient-centred healthcare services to communities.
As Batch Sigay walks through the hospital corridors, wards, clinics, and emergency rooms, they carry more than just medical knowledgeโthey carry the hopes of the communities they will one day serve. Their white coats have taken on a deeper significance: they symbolize trust, responsibility, and a lifelong commitment to healing. With each patient encounter and every lesson learned, these future physicians move closer to their callingโserving humanity with competence, compassion, and unwavering dedication.
