CHMSU BIT Apparel & Fashion Tech 2nd Year Joerom Blacer Wins Silver at WorldSkills Philippines 2026 NIR Regionals 🥈

CHMSU Bachelor of Industrial Technology major in Apparel and Fashion Technology 2nd Year student Joerom Blacer won the silver medal in the Fashion Technology category at WorldSkills Philippines 2026, Regional Skills Olympics. The competition was held in Dumaguete City, NIR, Philippines. Joerom brought pride and honor to CHMSU Apparel and Fashion Technology. The FAS community is very proud of you!

As we conclude this showcase, we celebrate the hard work, growth, and artistry behind every transformation. In line with sustainable fashion, students upcycled and altered existing garments instead of creating new ones, reducing textile waste and promoting SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production and SDG 13: Climate Action. Every stitch proves that creativity and sustainability can go hand in hand.

Fast fashion drives 10% of global carbon emissions, 92M tons of textile waste yearly, and 20% of global wastewater. CHMSU’s 1st Year Apparel and Fashion Technology students are taking action by upcycling old clothes into masterpieces, pushing back against overconsumption and promoting SDG Initiatives on Climate Action and Responsible Consumption. Every thread is a step toward better fashion. Every tapestry tells a story that lasts — so make it sustainable.

The BIT- Apparel and Fashion Technology program showcased a fusion of culture, heritage, and Filipino fashion while embracing modernity during the Excelsior Night event of CHMSU’s 4th Foundation Week.

Students presented their take on the Terno and Barong Tagalog, telling a story rooted in ancestral traditions that shaped Philippine history and the fashion industry. From the Baro, Tapis, and Saya to modernized designs, the runway served as a torchbearer for future ChMSUan designers an open letter to the next generation to cultivate and preserve the distinct fashion identity of Filipinos.

The all-gender runway, led by Organization President 𝙍𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙧 𝘾𝙤𝙨𝙖𝙨 and 𝘿𝙧. 𝙇𝙮𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙚 𝙍𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙖 Teacher In-charge in collaboration with designers from the Negros Island Region, highlighted gender equality and inclusivity across the university. The event was held in partnership with the Student Affairs and Services, headed by 𝘿𝙧. 𝙑𝙞𝙘𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙖 𝙑𝙞𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙖; the Culture and Arts Office, headed by 𝙎𝙞𝙧 𝙍𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙚 𝘿. 𝘾𝙖𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙖 𝙈𝘼𝙏., Culture and Arts Director; and 𝘿𝙧. 𝘼𝙣𝙖 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝘼𝙣𝙣 𝙃. 𝙋𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙝𝙤.

Appreciation was extended to all External designers; 𝙅𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙖𝙝 𝙂𝙖𝙯𝙤, 𝙎𝙩𝙚𝙫𝙚 𝙂𝙚𝙣𝙯𝙤𝙡𝙖, and 𝙀𝙙𝙬𝙞𝙣 𝘽𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙯 and 𝙅𝙤𝙨𝙝𝙪𝙖 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙠 𝙎𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙤 and models who brought the collection to life and made history on the runway.
