𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 || The CatSU DiploSoc appreciates the prompt action of the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs to its letter request to convene a meeting and include the opinion and preference of the students in addressing the issue of high heat index. We are also delighted to hear that most of our proposed measures were adopted during the said meeting.

This collaborative effort highlights the significance of student representation in decision-making processes that directly affect the CatSUans’ well-being, and in directing the appropriate learning modalities tailored to each college for the convenience of the students.

The 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐒𝐔 𝐃𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 joined the 𝐂𝐇𝐔𝐌𝐒𝐒 Faculty in their 𝑨𝒅𝒐𝒑𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑶𝒓𝒈𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒛𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 (𝑨𝑪𝑶𝒔) 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝑫𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒑𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝑺𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑳𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒔 𝑺𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒓-𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒌𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒑, held on December 4, 2024, at Brgy. San Isidro, Brgy. San Vicente, Brgy. Bugao in Bagamanoc, Catanduanes and Brgy. Napo, Pandan, Catanduanes.

The initiative provided 5-kilo repacked rice (from PSWDO) to 120 members of the adopted organizations in the four (4) barangays and two (2) generator sets were given to two barangays that do not yet have electricity.

The CatSU Diplomatic Society is glad to have participated in this meaningful project, and we sincerely hope that our contributions have brought positive impact and support to these communities.

𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬

On November 16, 2024, Catanduanes was devastated by the onslaught of Super Typhoon (STY) Pepito with winds reaching up to 325 kph and the Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TWCS) reaching Signal No. 5. Despite having zero casualties, numerous homes were totally and partially damaged. The entire province lost electric power and many municipalities had their water supply cut off.

The Catanduanes State University, as the melting pot of students from all municipalities, has a significant population of students from the worst-hit towns of the province.

On November 21, 2024, Catanduanes State University released a memorandum signed by OIC Atty. Septon A. De la Cruz, CESO III regarding class resumption scheduled on November 25, 2024.

The CatSU Diplomatic Society is concerned regarding the early resumption of classes as STY Pepito caused massive loss to the people of the Catanduanes. Many Catandunganons - particularly CatSUans - lost access to basic necessities such as shelter, clothing, and livelihood, not to mention electricity, water, and even daily sustenance.

The destruction caused by STY Pepito not only affected the means of daily survival of Catandunganons, but also their emotional and mental state. While the province is slowly recovering from the damage, it is abundantly clear that a vast percentage of CatSUans are far from ready to resume classes.

In this context, the Catanduanes State University Diplomatic Society:

Acknowledges the mission of Catanduanes State University to foster excellent, holistic, and inclusive education;

Emphasizes that the institution's most vital assets are its students – the CatSUans;

Acknowledges that a justifiable period is needed before our fellow CatSUans are ready for the resumption of classes given the aftermath of Super Typhoon Pepito;

Expresses concern that the "readiness" mentioned in the first paragraph of the memorandum dated November 21, 2024, referred solely on the safety and functionality of institutional facilities;

Appeals that the memorandum from OIC Atty. Septon A. De la Cruz, CESO Il posted on November 21, 2024 at the Catanduanes State University's page regarding the resumption of classes be reconsidered;

Recommends that the resumption of classes be moved at least a week further or at the start of December in order to properly assess and decide accordingly with the status quo of the institution's constituents; and

Further recommend that the institution administers Psychological First Aid (PFA) to CatSUans heavily affected by the Super Typhoon.

The CatSU DiploSoc expresses its admiration to the dedication of our 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝑫𝒊𝒔𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑹𝒊𝒔𝒌 𝑹𝒆𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑶𝒇𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒆 (𝑷𝑫𝑹𝑹𝑴𝑶) and other uniformed personnel in their post-STY Pepito operations. Your dedication has been instrumental in mobilizing relief and support that are needed for our beloved island to recover.

We also appreciate CATSU Debate Society, Philippine Nursing Students Association - Bicol Catanduanes Chapter, 𝑯𝒖𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒄𝒆 𝑺𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝑨𝒔𝒔𝒐𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔, and 𝑨𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔 in their dedication to volunteer and effort to help the Catandunganons by devoting their time and passion to this initiative.

𝙊𝙘𝙩𝙤𝙗𝙚𝙧 𝟑𝟎, 2024 - As the relief operations extended until nightfall, the CATarabang team still had one more barangay to visit before they were finally able to drive home. The last beneficiary barangay, adding to 𝗠𝗮𝘂𝗶, 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲, 𝗦𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗼𝗻 (𝗦𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼 𝗢𝘁𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮), and 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗮𝗺𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴, was 𝗛𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮.

The CATarabang team donated 24 food packs, 26 hygiene kits, 24 sanitary kits, and 6 boxes of clothes. In addition, 24 food packs from the PSME and BFP-Caramoran were also donated. Through the efforts of the Hitoma Barangay Council, these donations stretched to accommodate 𝟭𝟰𝟯 beneficiary families.
