Habijan, her brilliant teammate from Sorsogon Province representing Region V ( Bicol Region) held in Agusan Del Sur. This is her 1st time competing in Palarong Pambansa. 🏅

GRADE 4 CHESS PRODIGY EARNS GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE, QUALIFIES FOR PALARONG PAMBANSA

LEGAZPI CITY, BICOL REGION – March 4, 2026 – Lysa Rose S. Omadto, a 9-year-old Grade 4 student from Christian Polytechnic Institute of Catanduanes International Academy, Inc., secured a silver medal in the Individual Standard Category (Elementary Girls Division) at the 2026 Bicol Regional Athletic Meet, earning her a spot in this year’s Palarong Pambansa.

Lysa Rose competed against 25 young chess players from across the Bicol region who participated in the elementary girls chess event, showcasing strategic skill and composure beyond her years. After five intense rounds of play over three days, she finished with 4.5 points, narrowly missing gold by half a point but securing her qualification to the national championships set to take place in Agusan del Sur this May. She and her teammate Jhela Marie S. Osida also earned GOLD medal in the Team Standard Event and BRONZE medal in the Team Blitz Event.

“Lysa has been actively participating in the chess tournaments within and outside the school since she was 8 years old,” shared Ms. Shara May S. Omadto, the school’s chess coach. "She spends hours studying openings and analyzing games, and her focus during matches is remarkable. Qualifying for Palarong Pambansa is a huge achievement for her and our school."

Lysa expressed excitement about representing the Bicol region at the national level. "I’m a little nervous but very happy," she said. "I plan to practice even more with my trainers and play against older players to get ready for the big meet in Agusan del Sur."

The school’s administration recognized Lysa’s accomplishment, stating that her success highlights their commitment to developing both academic and athletic talent among its students.

1st CPIC-IA Chess Tournament:

ANNOUNCEMENT: 1st CPIC-IA CHESS TOURNAMENT RESCHEDULED

Due to the issuance of a typhoon signal affecting our province, the chess tournament originally scheduled for January 17, 2026 is hereby CANCELLED.

The safety and well-being of all players, officials, and spectators are our utmost priority. We recognize that traveling and gathering during typhoon conditions pose significant risks to everyone involved, and we have made this decision to ensure no one is put in harm's way.

The tournament will now be held on January 25, 2026, at the same venue and time as previously announced. All registered participants will be notified via their provided contact details.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding as we prioritize everyone's safety.

Meanwhile, ONLINE REGISTRATION will continue until January 24, 2026 at 5pm.
