JSMU Participates in Sindh HEC Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Training
Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) actively participated in the one-day training on "Concepts and Framework of Outcome-Based Education (OBE)" organized by the Sindh Higher Education Commission (HEC), Government of Sindh, in collaboration with the Institute of Business Management (IoBM). The training was held on 17th June 2026 at the IoBM Amphitheatre Hall, Karachi, and focused on strengthening understanding of Outcome-Based Education, curriculum alignment, assessment strategies, and quality enhancement practices in higher education.
Representing JSMU at the training were Dr. Muhammad Waqas (Assistant Professor, IMT), Dr. Hina Gul Khatak (Assistant Director, QEC), Dr. Ghazala Noor Nizami (Additional Director, IPTR), and Dr. Tayyaba Akram (Lecturer, SIOHS), and Their participation reflected the university's commitment to professional development and academic quality enhancement.
The participation of JSMU faculty and quality assurance professionals demonstrates the university's ongoing efforts to strengthen Outcome-Based Education implementation, enhance teaching and learning practices, and align academic programs with national and international quality standards. Basics of GI Endoscopy Workshop Successfully Conducted at JSMU
The Basics of GI Endoscopy Workshop on Upper GI Endoscopy and Colonoscopy was successfully organized by Medical Unit III, Ward-07, JPMC, Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), and the JSMU Continuing Medical Education (CME) Department. Held at the PDC Skill Lab, JSMU, the workshop brought together consultants and postgraduate trainees for an interactive and skill-based learning experience.
The workshop was designed to provide participants with a basic understanding of gastrointestinal endoscopy, including its indications, contraindications, potential risks, and the clinical applications of Upper GI Endoscopy and Colonoscopy. The academic sessions focused on strengthening participants' knowledge and preparing them for practical endoscopic procedures.
A major highlight of the workshop was the hands-on simulation training, where participants practiced endoscopic techniques on simulation-based manikins under the guidance of Dr. Adil Hassan Chang, Dr. Masood Khoso, and Dr. Ghulam Basit. The workshop was directed and supervised by Prof. Dr. Shabnam Naveed, whose leadership and expertise contributed significantly to the success of the event.

Jinnah Sindh Medical University Syndicate Approves Annual Budget and New Academic Appointments at 38th Meeting
The Syndicate of Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) held its 38th meeting at the Vice Chancellor’s Board Room to deliberate on key administrative, financial, and academic matters. Chaired by the Vice Chancellor Prof Amjad Siraj Memon, the session resulted in the approval of the university’s financial roadmap and significant expansions to its faculty and technical staff.
To support the university’s growing digital and academic needs, the Syndicate approved several key appointments from Selection Board #214. New non-faculty positions in the Information Technology (IT) department were confirmed, including a Senior Software Engineer, Software Developer, Web Developer, and Network Administrator.
On the academic front, the Syndicate approved the appointment of an Assistant Professor of Pharmacognosy for the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and authorized the hiring of faculty for the College of Occupational Therapy. The meeting also saw the implementation of recent PMDC notifications regarding faculty regulations.
A primary focus of the meeting was the university's fiscal health. The Syndicate officially approved the budget estimates for the Fiscal Year 2026-2027. Furthermore, the body reviewed and approved revised budget estimates and projected actuals for FY 2025-26, ensuring continued financial stability and resource allocation for the upcoming academic year. These decisions followed the approval of the minutes from the 29th Finance & Planning Committee meeting held earlier this month.
The Syndicate further directed that a committee be formed to review and expand the eligibility criteria for positions in the Department of Finance, allowing candidates holding other equivalent recognized professional qualifications, including ACCA and ICMA, in addition to Chartered Accountancy.
The meeting concluded with the confirmation of the minutes and resolutions from the 37th Syndicate meeting, marking a successful transition into the new fiscal and academic period.

IPS-JSMU Empowers Researchers Through Paperpal Academic Writing Workshop
The Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS), Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), successfully organized a hands-on workshop titled "Mastering Academic Writing with Paperpal" under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Huma Ali, Principal, IPS-JSMU. The workshop aimed to equip participants with practical skills in AI-powered academic writing, manuscript enhancement, dissertation improvement, document health checks, responsible AI use, and publication readiness.
At the beginning of the session, Prof. Dr. Huma Ali welcomed the participants and introduced the facilitator, Dr. Kaneez Fatima Lecturer at IPS In her opening remarks, she highlighted the growing importance of artificial intelligence in research and academic writing, emphasizing the need for researchers and students to adopt ethical and effective AI tools to enhance the quality of scholarly work.
The interactive session was facilitated by Dr. Kaneez Fatima, who provided hands-on training on using Paperpal for improving manuscripts and dissertations. Participants actively engaged in practical exercises and learned strategies to strengthen their academic writing while ensuring publication readiness and responsible use of AI.
The workshop was organized by the dedicated IPS team, including Mr. Kashan Majeed, Dr. Saba Zubair, and Dr. Rabia Manawwar, Lecturers at IPS-JSMU, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Huma Ali. Their collective efforts ensured the successful planning and ex*****on of the event.
At the conclusion of the workshop, Dr. Humera Siddiqui, Vice Principal, IPS-JSMU, appreciated the valuable contribution of Dr. Kaneez Fatima for delivering an informative and engaging session. She also distributed certificates to the participants and members of the organizing team, acknowledging their active participation and commitment to promoting academic excellence through innovative learning initiatives.

20 Participants Completed Training in the Concluding Session of the 3-Day MVA-VCAT Workshop at JSMU
A three-day training workshop on Safe Evacuation of Uterine Cavity (MVA-VCAT) was successfully concluded at Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU). The workshop was jointly organized by Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and JSMU in collaboration with IPASS. A total of 20 doctors participated in this training program aimed at strengthening safe and quality reproductive healthcare services.
During the three days, participants actively engaged in lectures, hands-on practical training, and group discussions. The training focused on improving skills in safe uterine evacuation procedures, strengthening clinical decision-making, and ensuring adherence to standard medical guidelines. The enthusiasm and active participation of the attendees contributed to the overall success of the workshop.
The sessions were conducted by distinguished experts including Prof. Dr. Nighat Ali Shah (Pro Vice Chancellor, JSMU), Dr. Nighat Bano (Senior Technical Advisor, IPASS Pakistan), and Ms. Shehar Bano (Clinical Trainer, IPASS Pakistan). They provided both theoretical knowledge and practical guidance to the participants throughout the training.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Amjad Siraj Memon, stated: “Such training programs play a vital role in enhancing the skills of healthcare professionals and ensuring the delivery of quality healthcare services.” The Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Nighat Ali Shah, added: “These training activities are essential for strengthening the healthcare system and promoting safe medical practices.”

Day 1 of MVA-VCAT Training Successfully Conducted at JSMU
The first day of the MVA-VCAT Training for Safe Evacuation of Uterine Cavity, organized by Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) in collaboration with IPASS, was successfully conducted at the 6th Floor Hall, PDC, JSMU.

JSMU Receives Recognition at World Blood Donor Day Awareness Program
Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) was honored at the World Blood Donor Day Awareness Program organized by Fatimid Foundation in collaboration with the Regional Blood Centre Karachi and the Health Department, Government of Sindh. Held on 14 June 2026 at Beach Luxury Hotel, Karachi, the event highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation under the theme, “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.”
Representing JSMU, Dr. Muhammad Israr Nasir, Professor of Pathology and Incharge, JSMU Laboratory and Blood Bank, received a commemorative shield on behalf of the university. YPDC JSMU Chapter Orientation 2026
The YPDC JSMU Chapter Orientation was successfully held on 13th June 2026 at the Ground Floor Lecture Hall, SMC Building. The session introduced students to the vision, objectives, and ongoing initiatives of YPDC, highlighting opportunities for community engagement, volunteerism, and social impact.

JSMU Hosts a Landmark National Quality Assurance Seminar
The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) of Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) successfully organized a high-impact National Seminar entitled,“From Compliance to Continuous Improvement: Operationalizing PSG-2023 in Pakistani Universities" on 15th June, 2026 at JSMU Main Campus. The event brought together quality assurance professionals, academic leaders, and higher education practitioners under one roof—and virtually across the country.
The seminar witnessed an impressive turnout, with more than thirty on-campus participants and over 140 online attendees joining various public and private sector universities across Pakistan, reflecting a growing national commitment to academic excellence and regulatory compliance.
The seminar addressed one of the most pressing challenges facing Pakistani higher education institutions today: operationalizing the Pakistan Standards and Guidelines (PSG-2023) while effectively closing the loop on self-assessment processes.
The event featured two distinguished keynote speakers: Dr. Iftikhar Mubashir, Director QEC, UIT University, who delivered a compelling session on “Embedding Outcome-Based Education (OBE) within PSG Compliance.”
Dr. Abdul Wahid Usmani, Director QEC, Jinnah Sindh Medical University , who presented on “Closing the Loop: Ensuring Impact of Self-Assessment under PSG-2023.”
Participants lauded the seminar for its timely relevance, depth of content, interactive format and actionable takeaways. Online attendees actively engaged through a dedicated digital platform, while on-campus participants contributed to a vibrant discourse on quality enhancement.
