For years, Andreea thought it was normal to get sick 3-4 times every month.

She was constantly exhausted.

She struggled to focus.

๐ˆ ๐ฐ๐š๐ฌ ๐จ๐ง๐ž ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ฉ ๐š๐ฐ๐š๐ฒ ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐ฆ๐ฒ ๐ฉ๐จ๐ž๐ฆ ๐ฐ๐ก๐ž๐ง... ๐š ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฅ๐ž ๐š๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐ž๐.

There are quite a few moments from my childhood that I remember in detail, but I have a few that stand out strongly. One of them... the end-of-year celebration in 1st grade, which I'll tell you about in several "episodes".

I was among the children who got first prize and my parents added to the prize given by my teacher: more books! I wasn't passionate about reading yet, so it was like prevention :))) want to encourage a child to read? You buy them some nice books and then keep promoting them.

After the pampering, which I think felt like "Santa Claus has arrived" and certainly also like "wow, getting first prize is really worth it!", there was a show put on by us, the children, for the parents who made up the audience. I remember we were arranged like a choir, in front of the classroom, and the parents sat quietly at their desks, ready to admire their children.

We all had large boards hanging around our necks, almost as big as we were, each with a letter of the alphabet. And one by one, when it was our turn, we recited a little poem connected to that particular letter.

It's hard for me to go back and feel what I was feeling back then, but I clearly remember two things: I had just had an ear infection and we were about to move. This celebration was my last interaction with a warm environment where I had felt good and where I had found my place. Hmm... or maybe... I had earned it. I was a top student, appreciated by my teacher, and I had made friends. I felt at home. And... that movie was about to break apart on the very day of the celebration.

I had a mixture of sensations in my body... my ear was ringing and, together with it, at least half of my head was numb with pain; I could feel the warmth of my teacher's appreciation and my parents' pride - you know that saying: "that's my girl!" On one hand, I was trying to concentrate, I had 2 poems to perform in front of the audience, on the other hand, I was wrapped in the sadness of my last interaction with an environment that, for a year, had been my second home.

I have no idea what was in the hearts of the other children, but the classroom was packed with emotions. Some of the kind that make you feel like you're carrying a 50 kg backpack, when one of us stumbled over a poem, others of the kind that make you feel like you're flying, when another round of applause and encouragement came from the parents. Yes... and that tension you feel like an ice cube sliding down your spine... 3 children left, 2, 1... and... I'm next!

And just when the tension was at its highest, a puddle quietly appeared between the feet of the children's choir. For a few seconds nobody understood anything.

We looked at one another. Surprise. Confusion. Raised shoulders. Faces saying: what is that?

Until one of the children blurted out: "he peed himself!"... at which point... the audience and the choir were dying with laughter... in a fraction of a second the cloud of stress disappeared and it felt like we became children again, equally those of us in the choir and those sitting in the desks.

I don't remember who couldn't handle the tension anymore and honestly, it doesn't matter. It was an unforgettable moment that came with relaxation and humanity, not with shame and guilt. At least that's how I perceived it. Any one of us could have been the one who cut through the cloud of tension and yes... it was needed.

Yes... sometimes ๐ฐ๐ž'๐ซ๐ž ๐ฌ๐จ ๐œ๐จ๐ง๐œ๐ž๐ซ๐ง๐ž๐ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก ๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฒ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ง๐ข๐ง๐  ๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐Ÿ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ญ๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ฐ๐ž ๐ฆ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐›๐ž๐š๐ฎ๐ญ๐ข๐Ÿ๐ฎ๐ฅ ๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ž๐ฑ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž.

Or... we end up denying ourselves the experience... maybe because "it's not the right time".

That's exactly what you do too when you know you need to make some changes. Related to how you look and how you feel, or... anything else.

You postpone. You wait for the perfect moment.
Only life doesn't seem very interested in creating the perfect conditions you want.
Something always comes up.

Maybe you're already exercising.
Maybe you're trying to eat well.
Maybe you already know a lot.
And yet... the results aren't there.
Or they aren't stable. Or they come slowly.
Or you're lacking consistency.

Success comes when you start from where you are.
With the life you have now.
With the challenges you have now.
With the energy you have now.
Without waiting for everything to line up.

Last year in Amsterdam I organized a bike tour for the MVU Mindvalley crew.

I arrived early at the bike rental place feeling all responsible and organized...

Only to find out they had no bikes left. None. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

After a brief internal panic attack, I found another rental shop nearby.
They had plenty of bikes available.
A few minutes later I understood why.

The yellow bikes in the photo were basically the Dutch version of the Pegas bike from my Romanian childhood. ๐Ÿ˜†

Small wheels. Pedal brakes.
Heavy enough to count as strength training equipment.

The scenery was beautiful.
Canals, windmills, great people and lots of laughs.
The bikes, however, turned every kilometer into a workout.
We arrived late. We got back even later.
And we were too tired to be annoyed about it. ๐Ÿ˜‚

The following weekend I organized another ride.
Bigger group. Less fit people.
Proper bikes. Big wheels. Hand brakes.

The result?
We went farther and finished earlier.

Thatโ€™s when it clicked.
๐„๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ ๐ฆ๐š๐ญ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ.
๐„๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ข๐œ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ฒ ๐จ๐Ÿ๐ญ๐ž๐ง ๐ฆ๐š๐ค๐ž๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐๐ข๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ซ๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž.

How often do you think you need more discipline, more motivation, more effort... maybe even a stricter diet?

When what you actually need is a better system.
