👨‍🏫 With 13 years of teaching experience, Mr Mitchell has worked in international schools across 🇶🇦 Qatar, 🇱🇻 Latvia, and 🇲🇾 Malaysia. He has taught across both Key Stages 1 and 2 and held middle leadership roles, including Head of Year 4 🎖️. Mr Mitchell holds an honours degree in Japanese Studies 🇯🇵 and a Master's degree in Education from Durham University 🎓, as well as a PGCE from the University of Cumbria.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 A devoted father of two at BISR, Mr Mitchell is always up for an adventure 🧗‍♂️ – one even took him to work on the first two Lord of the Rings films 🎬🌋. He enjoys night photography 📸, chasing the Milky Way 🌌, and staying active through fitness 💪 and his love of basketball 🏀.

Our Al Hamra students had an absolute blast during their Maths Olympiad! They had to power through some fun physical challenges before racing over to their teachers to tackle a maths question. 🏃‍♂️💨🔢

Congratulations to our very own Thomas Poole-Phillips from British International School Riyadh (BISR)'s Tabuk campus for winning a Toddle - Your Teaching Partner AI Tutor Award!

Out of thousands of submissions from over 65 countries, Thomas’s innovative work stood out globally to be named among Toddle's Best AI Tutors of 2026.

This is an awesome recognition of Thomas's dedication to shaping the future of education and leveraging AI to create meaningful learning experiences. We couldn't be prouder to have him on the team, constantly pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the classroom.

Thomas says: "Winning this award was incredibly rewarding, but the highlight for me was seeing students confidently explain the science behind their designs. The project wasn't about using AI for the sake of technology; it was about giving every student a voice and helping them reflect more deeply on their learning. Seeing students connect scientific thinking, creativity and problem-solving in this way is exactly the kind of future-ready learning experience we aim to create at BISR."

✨ Student-Led Expo ✨

Our incredible Year 6 students at our Al Hamra campus recently wrapped up their unit on upcycling with a spectacular student-led Expo! 🏫🎒

The exhibition was a brilliant showcase of creativity, innovation, and environmental awareness. 🌍💡 Students presented their unique upcycled inventions, each designed to promote sustainability and breathe new life into everyday materials. ♻️🛠️

As always, we were delighted to welcome our parent community to school for the event. 👥❤️ The children did an outstanding job articulately explaining their learning journey, the design process, and the vital role sustainability plays in our world today. 🗣️🌱

BISR students are not just learning about the future, they are actively shaping it! 🚀🌟

We had an amazing time during our F2 Pyjama Party at our Al Waha campus! 😴🌙 The children thoroughly enjoyed experiencing school after dark, dancing with glow sticks at their disco, 🕺✨ playing outdoor games, 🌲🏃‍♂️ and snuggling up for a bedtime story by torchlight. 📚🔦

They wrapped up the magical evening with a refreshing lemonade and ice cream treat. 🍋🍦 A huge thank you to Letitia and Anthony's mum for kindly providing the delicious ice cream through her business! 🍧❤️ It was a massive hit and made the evening extra special! 🎉⭐️

Mrs Clapham is an experienced educator with 17 years of teaching Sport and Physical Education in UK secondary schools. 🇬🇧 🏫 She trained at the University of Bedfordshire 🎓 and has developed a strong track record of inspiring students through engaging, inclusive, and high-quality PE lessons. 🏃‍♀️✨ She is passionate about promoting lifelong physical activity and fostering personal growth through sport. 📈

Her approach emphasises teamwork, resilience, and confidence, helping students reach their full potential both in and out of the classroom. 🤝💪 Committed to continuous professional development, Mrs Clapham brings dedication, energy, and expertise to every aspect of her teaching practice. 🔥🌟

Mrs Clapham is married with two children and enjoys a healthy, active lifestyle. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🍏 Her family shares a love for sport, nature, and adventure. 🌲🪵 A keen hockey player 🏑, she has recently started playing touch rugby 🏉 and values staying active, spending quality time outdoors, and exploring new challenges together. ⛰️🧭

Last week, we had the immense privilege of celebrating our extraordinary Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award achievers at the British Embassy, with His Majesty’s Ambassador, Stephen Hitchen, kindly presenting the awards to our students. 🏅🤝

Seven British International School Riyadh (BISR) students successfully completed their Gold Award this year. We were delighted to have five of them—Iman, Eli, Layla, Will, and Jack—present at the ceremony, alongside their proud families, to mark this incredible occasion. 🎓👪

This celebration represents the pinnacle of a dedicated three-year journey. ⛰️📈 These students have shown immense perseverance as they progressed through the Bronze, Silver, and now Gold levels of the Award. 🥉🥈🥇

Demonstrating true leadership, two of these achievers have gone even further by completing the DofE Award Leader training, and are already planning to support and mentor the next generation of participants. 👥🚀
