Bridge2Future

After a visit to the Sekenani Boarding School, a school for 900 pupils, we understood the pressing need for a library. A library where students have a place where they can read, study, and do their homework. Most of the children live at the school during the terms. The dormitories are packed, sometimes with 70 girls or boys in one building, sleeping in three storage beds and sometimes two in each bed. They have no place to sit and have no privacy for their studies. So therefore, we decided to build a library. Through a network of generous donors, we have also been able to collect chapter books, picture books and other books in different subjects!

Schools in Kenya have very little means. To be fluent in English is a door opener to job opportunities, especially in official jobs and in the tourism industry. English is an official national language in Kenya which has also endorsed a law of enforcing that every third job in the official sector should be held by a woman. Great opportunity for many girls to educate them into jobs, at least with an exam from Secondary School.

Det finns något speciellt med att få åka på skolutflykt. Spänningen att sitta på bussen till utflyktsmålet, gemenskapen, längtan efter att få uppleva något nytt. Skratten, upplevelserna man skall få vara med om. Det är något alldeles speciellt.
Bridge2Future ger barn möjlighet att gå i skolan och vi ger dem möjlighet att få delta i skolutflykter genom de medel vi samlar in. Det ger oss glädje att få ge våra sponsrade barn den möjligheten. Det hade dock inte hänt utan att Kevin, en av pojkarna som är topptvå i sin klass gjort oss uppmärksammade på detta. Det är inte alla barn som får möjlighet att åka på skolutflykt. Deras föräldrar har helt enkelt inte råd att betala deras skolutflykter. Kevin gjorde sig till talesperson och bad oss speciellt att vi skulle hjälpa dem att få möjlighet att följa med på utflykterna. Han ville med hela sitt hjärta följa med till sjöarna, dit han aldrig hade varit, han bad för alla sina kamrater att vi skulle möjliggöra för dem att få följa med. Han använde sin röst för att framföra sin önskan och han använde sin kapacitet och förtroende för att framföra en uppriktig önskan. Kevin är en intelligent pojke, duktig i skolan, full av integritet och en riktig kämpe. En pojke värd att beundra! Det fanns bara ett svar på hans förfrågan och uppriktiga önska. Vi beviljade medel för att våra sponsrade barn skulle få följa med. Trots detta, känner vi att det är ledsamt att inte alla barn får möjlighet till att delta. Därför kommer vi att försöka samla in pengar så att flera barn kan få följa med till nästa år. Njut av dessa bilder och kom ihåg känslan av era egna skolutflykter och äventyr.

Bridge2future, together with other foundations, have sponsored a new septic tank at the Siana Secondary School for girls. Now, the girls will be able to use the facilities in the new dormitory that we also contributed to.🙂
