马年的“马”，不代表速度喔

When people hear “Year of the Horse,” many immediately assume it must be a year of speed, rapid developments, and fast-moving events. After all, horses are known for their strength, endurance, and ability to run swiftly.

However, this is one of the most common misconceptions in Chinese Metaphysics.

If the Year of the Horse truly represented speed simply because a horse runs fast, then we should already be witnessing a rapidly accelerating global economy. Yet, even from the beginning of the year, many economies around the world have been slowing down rather than speeding up.

So where does this misunderstanding come from?

The answer lies in the confusion between two entirely different systems of representation.

The “Horse” in the Year of the Horse refers to the Earthly Branch 午 (Wu). While 午 is symbolized by the Horse in the Chinese Zodiac, the Horse itself is not the focus. The animal is merely a symbolic representation used to identify a specific Earthly Branch within the system of time.

In Chinese Metaphysics, the Twelve Earthly Branches are primarily used to study cycles, timing, interactions, combinations, clashes, and the flow of energy through different periods. In other words, 午 (Wu) represents a particular energetic timing, not the behavioural characteristics of an actual horse.

This is where many practitioners become confused.

A living horse, with its speed, strength, freedom, and untamed spirit, is more accurately associated with the 乾卦 (Qian Trigram). Qian represents the most Yang manifestation among the Eight Trigrams. It embodies movement, vitality, leadership, force, and dynamic expression, qualities that we naturally observe in horses.

The key point is this:

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐲 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐡 午 (𝐖𝐮) 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠.

One belongs to the system of timing and cyclical energy.

The other belongs to the system of symbolic characteristics and energetic expression.

They are related only through representation, but they serve entirely different purposes.

When these two systems are mixed together, inaccurate conclusions inevitably follow. By the same logic, one could claim that every Horse Year must be fast-moving because horses run quickly, or that every Rat Year must be sneaky because rats move stealthily.

Such interpretations may sound logical on the surface, but they are fundamentally flawed and often lead to inaccurate predictions and misunderstandings of Metaphysical principles.

Authentic Chinese Metaphysics is not about attaching animal characteristics to a calendar year. It is about understanding the underlying energetic structures, how different systems interact, and how timing influences manifestation.

This distinction between Earthly Branch representations and Trigram representations is one of the many foundational concepts that separate symbolic interpretation from true energetic analysis.

Heavy Thunderstorms in China

Several parts of China are currently experiencing heavy thunderstorms, and well, this presents a fantastic opportunity to clear some common misunderstandings in Chinese Metaphysics.

Many believe that the Fire Horse year will bring about a hot and dry weather. This is incorrect. In reality, this is an oversimplification and is often inaccurate, and it’s exactly the reason why you cannot rely on the year’s luck reading based on one’s Zodiac Animal.

As a matter of fact, such widespread thunderstorms are not typically expected at this point in time. The reason lies in a fundamental principle that is frequently overlooked: events manifest according to the energies present at each specific juncture of time, rather than following a broad interpretation based solely on the annual energy signature.

This distinction is precisely where many practitioners encounter difficulties. Relying only on yearly descriptions without understanding how energies evolve, interact, and manifest through time often leads to inaccurate conclusions and inconsistent predictions.

True accuracy comes not from memorizing general characteristics of a year, but from understanding the movement, transformation, and manifestation of energy as it unfolds moment by moment.

As one of the important solar terms in the traditional agricultural calendar, Mangzhong marks a busy and meaningful transition in Nature’s rhythm. It is a time when ripening wheat is harvested, while late-season crops such as rice are sown, reflecting the powerful cycle of reaping what has matured and planting what has yet to grow.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄, 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆. While the Fire Horse year is said to have started on 立春 Li Chun (The Start of Spring), the Horse energy comes late in the June period. This is the professional methodology for reading energy, allowing for a more precise and objective analysis of its influence and characteristics.

Global temperatures are expected to rise even more sharply, creating challenges in many regions and triggering increasingly erratic weather — shifting into extreme heat and cold. However, this heat also serves as a powerful reminder that diligent effort fueled by passion leads to fruitful harvests, encouraging us to seize every moment for growth.
