From student leadership to research in sustainable and functional materials, women at NTU MSE are shaping the future of engineering.
To mark International Women in Engineering Day on 23 June, we connected with Ms Maftuna Badalova, Year 4 undergraduate student and one of the youngest female scientific committee members of the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad; Dr Deng Jingyu (NTU MSE full-time research fellow and fresh graduated Ph.D); and Dr Wang Yamin (NTU MSE full-time research fellow and alumni), recipients of NTU’s Women in Engineering, Science, and Technology Development Grant.

Innovation in materials science never stops, and every step is a record of our progress so far.
NTU MSE’s students presented the fruit of their labour at the latest NTU MSE Student & Research Showcase, where industry partners engaged with faculty and students alike to explore opportunities for collaboration.
For the first time, postgraduates were invited to the showcase, where we saw a wider breadth of projects spanning applied innovation, interdisciplinary collaborations and advanced research in topics such as:
- AI, Data Science & Computational Materials
- Nanomaterials & Advanced Coatings
- Battery Technologies & Energy Storage
- Biomedical Materials & Biotechnologies
- MicroElectronics
- Smart Manufacturing & 3D Printing
- Sustainability & Green Tech

Ever wondered what life at NTU MSE is like?
On 9 May, we welcomed successful applicants at the NTU MSE Tea Party 2026, where they got a glimpse into the world of Materials Science and Engineering — from hands-on projects and overseas exchange opportunities to student life, research experiences and future career pathways.
Through conversations with professors, alumni and student ambassadors, they heard firsthand how MSE students are tackling real-world challenges and driving innovation across areas such as sustainability, healthcare, electronics, and advanced technologies.
At NTU MSE, students can explore pathways across areas such as clean energy, nanotechnology, biomaterials, semiconductors, AI for materials discovery and advanced manufacturing — opening opportunities across industries transforming the world today and tomorrow. Find out more about studying at NTU MSE via the link in bio.
Congratulations once again to all our successful applicants! Remember to accept your offer by 25 May. We look forward to welcoming you to the NTU MSE family!
