Researchers from Energy Research Institute at NTU have developed 10nm ultra-thin, semi-transparent perovskite solar film that could one day allow glass facades, windows, and other surfaces to generate electricity while still letting light through.
Led by ERI@N's Cluster Director Prof Annalisa Bruno, PhD, the breakthrough solar cells are approximately 10,000 times thinner than a strand of human hair and around 50 times thinner than conventional perovskite solar cells, while maintaining strong performance for ultrathin designs. Their near-invisible, colour-neutral appearance opens possibilities for integration into windows, façades, vehicles, smart wearables, and other urban surfaces where conventional solar panels may not be suitable.
The research highlights the potential of next-generation solar technologies to support more seamless and scalable urban energy solutions for future cities.
