The challenges that shape the future of education are often visible long before they become urgent.

At the recent 𝗤𝗦 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, 𝗠𝘀 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝗟𝗲𝗲 (Chief, Data Science & Digital Sustainability, 𝗡𝗨𝗦-𝗜𝗦𝗦) explored this idea in her session, 𝘾𝙖𝙣 𝘿𝙖𝙩𝙖 𝘿𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙀𝙡𝙚𝙥𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙞𝙣 𝙀𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣?

As AI continues to reshape work and shorten the shelf life of skills, traditional measures such as enrolment, attendance, completion, and satisfaction may no longer tell the full story.

Instead, Clara challenged educators and data professionals to look for early indicators in learner behaviour, engagement, performance, access, and system capacity, enabling better judgement and more timely action.

Her key message was clear. The goal is not more dashboards, but 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 about how we develop talent, build employer trust, and prepare learners for the future.

How are you using data today to anticipate change rather than react to it?

The hardest part of AI isn't building it. It's deciding where, when, and how it should be used.

That was one of the key themes explored during today's 𝗡𝗨𝗦-𝗜𝗦𝗦 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 on 𝘼𝙄 𝘼𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙨 𝘼𝙧𝙚 𝙃𝙞𝙜𝙝: 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙩 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙 𝘼𝙄 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙨𝙩. During the session, 𝗠𝗿 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝘁𝘁 𝗦𝗶 (Principal Lecturer & Consultant, Digital Products & Platforms Practice, 𝗡𝗨𝗦-𝗜𝗦𝗦) and 𝗠𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗲 (CEO, 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮.𝗮𝗶) shared their perspectives on what separates promising AI prototypes from solutions organisations can confidently deploy in the real world.

Beneath the excitement around AI agents, a recurring theme emerged. Getting AI to work is becoming easier. 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲.

Some key ideas surfaced throughout the conversation:
• Build for reliability, not just capability
• Focus on outcomes, not AI for AI's sake
• Accountability cannot be outsourced

As organisations move beyond experimentation, the conversation may need to shift from what AI can do to what organisations can confidently depend on it to do.

A lot of AI initiatives begin with excitement. Not all of them make it into real-world operations.

Some stall at the pilot stage. Some struggle to earn stakeholder trust. Others solve interesting problems, but not the ones businesses are truly ready to deploy at scale.
