They may look similar at first glance, but they’re actually two very different desserts 👀 both are layered, but made in completely different ways.
One is baked into a rich, dense cake with beautiful patterns, while the other is steamed layer by layer, soft, chewy, and full of colour ✨
Join our hands-on Malay desserts class and discover the beauty behind traditional sweets and what makes each one truly special!
Malay kuih uses simple ingredients, but what makes it special is the careful process 👀✨ It’s all about timing, texture, and gentle technique.
Don’t worry if you’re a beginner 😊 Our experienced chefs will guide you step by step, so you can learn easily and enjoy the process at your own pace.

We recently had an exciting Ultimate Cooking Combat session with Northoaks Primary School 🍳✨
The session began with plenty of enthusiasm as students gathered in their teams and started planning their dishes. Working with a $20 budget, each group selected ingredients, developed their ideas, and headed to the market before returning to the kitchen to bring their creations to life.
What made the experience especially memorable was the teamwork shown throughout the day. Each group worked closely together, sharing ideas, supporting one another, and overcoming challenges along the way. From preparation to plating, every student played a role in creating their final dish. 👨🍳👩🍳
Beyond the cooking, the activity encouraged communication, collaboration, and creative thinking in a fun and engaging environment.
Thank you to Northoaks Primary School for joining us. We truly appreciate the enthusiasm, effort, and teamwork shown by all the students throughout the session.
We look forward to welcoming you again at SSA Culinary Institute!

Last Friday, SSA Academy and SSA Culinary Institute had the honour of welcoming close to 900 cooks and centre attendants from NTUC First Campus childcare centres for their bi-annual professional development workshops focused on cooking, cleaning, workplace safety and operational best practices.
This marks the 5th run of this large-scale engagement conducted by SSA Group — a meaningful milestone that reflects the strong partnership and trust built over the years.
Behind every childcare centre is a dedicated team working tirelessly to support the wellbeing, safety and daily care of our children. From nutrition and food preparation to hygiene and environmental upkeep, the role played by cooks and centre attendants is incredibly important in shaping a safe and nurturing learning environment.
What stood out strongly throughout this engagement was NTUC First Campus’ genuine commitment towards continuous learning and development for their blue-collared workforce. It is inspiring to work alongside an organisation that places such strong emphasis on uplifting and empowering the people behind the scenes.
A heartfelt thank you as well to our trainers, facilitators, operations teams and support staff from SSA Academy and SSA Culinary Institute for making this large-scale programme possible.
We look forward to many more meaningful collaborations ahead.
