Your child submitted a FLAWLESS PSLE composition. Perfect grammar. Perfect structure.
And it lost 15 marks. Here’s the brutal truth.

Your P6 child crafts grammatically immaculate PSLE compositions.

Every rule is observed.

Every technique is applied.

Every standard is met.

But when the examiner finishes reading… they feel nothing.

No excitement. No engagement. No desire to remember it.

The marks reflect that indifference.

Your child loses 15 points despite doing “everything right.”

Repeatedly.

You’re blindsided. The composition is technically impeccable.

How is this possible?

You suspect the examiner is either incompetent or sadistic.

But here’s what schools don’t teach and most tutors won’t admit examiners are bored.

When your P6 child delivers a mechanically pristine but soul-draining PSLE composition,

the examiner’s eyes glaze over. They mark it competent. They award partial marks. They move on, forgetting it entirely.

Your child might have mastered every grammatical rule in existence.

But if the story itself puts examiners to sleep, full marks evaporate.

That’s precisely why P6 students with flawless technique still hemorrhage marks on PSLE compo.

They’ve perfected the skeleton.

They’ve forgotten to inject the heartbeat.

At Erya, we shatter the myth that technical perfection equals top marks, we teach your P6 child that examiners reward MEMORABLE narratives, not textbook adherence.

Because PSLE examiners crave stories that make them FEEL something, not compositions that merely satisfy a checklist.

No more technically perfect compos that examiners forget the moment they finish reading.

No more inexplicable mark deductions on “correct” work.

Ready to stop leaving 15 marks on the table? Enroll in our PSLE Composition Class at Erya.

Your child will craft stories examiners genuinely want to read and mark generously.

Does your child struggle with questions like:

❓ 他是一个怎么样的人?
❓ 作者是一个怎么样的人?
❓ 他有什么值得学习的地方?
❓ 从哪里可以看出……?

These are some of the most challenging questions in PSLE Chinese Comprehension because students cannot simply copy answers from the passage.

Instead, they need to:

✅ Find evidence from the text
✅ Summarise it using the appropriate character trait
✅ Answer using a complete and structured format

In this video, we’ll share a simple 3-step method to help students tackle character trait questions with confidence.

Chinese marks are not lost because students don’t study.

Many students already understand Chinese, but still lose marks because they struggle to express their ideas clearly, write with structure, or answer comprehension questions accurately.

That’s why Erya’s June Chinese MAP (Marks Accelerator Programme) is designed to help P3–P6 students strengthen key Chinese skills before Term 3 gets busier.

Through focused holiday workshops, students will work on:

✅ Oral confidence
✅ Composition structure
✅ Vocabulary application
✅ Comprehension answering techniques
✅ Clearer expression in Chinese

This is especially helpful for students who:

- Have ideas but cannot write them clearly
- Understand passages but give incomplete answers
- Can read Chinese but lack confidence
- Need more exam-focused practice before the next school term

“My example is correct... so why did I still lose marks?” 🤔

One common mistake in Chinese Comprehension is giving a life example that does not match the quality identified from the passage.

For example:
📖 Quality: Not afraid of hardship and hard work
❌ Example: Helping my mother with housework

The example may be positive, but it doesn’t clearly show perseverance or resilience.

Instead, your example should directly reflect the quality you want to learn.

✅ Quality: Not afraid of hardship and hard work
✅ Example: Studying and revising consistently every day despite challenges

Remember: Your example and the quality must correspond!

Always using “友好” to describe someone? 👀

Try these words instead:
✔️ 友善 — kind and friendly
✔️ 平易近人 — easy to get along with
✔️ 乐于助人 — willing to help others
✔️ 亲切 — warm and welcoming

Different words help students describe a person’s personality more accurately and make their writing more vivid ✨

The next time you’re writing a composition, don’t just say someone is “friendly”, show it through their character traits 💡

💬 Which word is your favourite?

⏳ Only 9 Weeks to PSLE Chinese Oral

9 weeks may sound like a long time.

But when you factor in school, homework, CCA, family commitments and weekends, there are very few opportunities left for your child to build confidence for Oral.

And Oral is not something students can improve overnight.

It takes time to:
🗣️ Learn how to structure answers
🗣️ Expand ideas confidently
🗣️ Respond naturally under pressure

If your child is still:
❌ Giving short answers
❌ Struggling to elaborate
❌ Saying “I don’t know what to say”

Now is the time to start.

The earlier they begin, the more time they have to develop the skills and confidence needed for PSLE Chinese Oral.

🚨 Don’t wait until Oral is only a few weeks away.
