When you're a busy art teacher or club owner sometimes it can be hard to find time for personal creative pursuits...

But did you know that incorporating creative practices into your weekly routine can restore balance, improve cognitive function and reduce stress?

Here are a couple ways you can work creative practices into your busy schedule:

1️⃣ Micro-Creativity Breaks:

Integrate short creative breaks into your schedule. Dedicate 10-15 minutes to sketch, doodle, write, or engage in any creative activity that brings you joy. Taking a break to refresh your mind can actually set you up to achieve better results in your other daily tasks.

2️⃣ Make Creativity a Social Activity:

If you already make time in your schedule for social activities with friends and family, why not share your passion and expertise with them and plan a fun craft or collaborative project? They'll get a glimpse into what you do for work (and fun!) every day, and it'll be a great way to bond over something memorable.

It's never too early to start developing a love of reading! In fact, research shows that the soothing, rhythmic sounds of reading a story to babies in the womb prompts brain activity, lowers foetal heart rate and improves early language skills.

Spelling Tracks 🚗

A really easy, hands-on way to make practising spellings a little more fun and engaging.

You can adapt it to your child's interest so it could be a train, dinosaur or a horse track instead.

I drew a track onto an A3 piece of paper and in each section I wrote down a different way to practise spelling a word. You'll need the spellings written onto bits of paper or card too.

The idea is for children to move their object around the track for a set amount of time. We used a little sand timer but you could have the timer on your phone, just do a 10 second countdown or play a bit of music and pause it every so often (a bit like musical statues). When the timer runs out they practise the word on the top of the card pile in the style it suggests in the space they have stopped i.e. land on blue they write the word in blue, land on fast they write the word as fast as they can. Repeat for all the cards as many times as they wish.
