Their study, titled "Using machine learning models to study the magnitude and associated factors of road traffic accidents among bus drivers in Marodijeh Region, Somaliland," has been published in the journal Discover Sustainability.

This research addresses a critical public health and infrastructure challenge: the high burden of road traffic accidents (RTAs). By utilizing both classical statistical methods and machine learning algorithms, the study provides a structured, data-driven analysis of accident risks in the Marodijeh region, offering practical insights for regional safety planning.

Study Highlights:

1. Analytical Approach: The study compared a multivariable binary logistic regression model with five machine learning algorithms. Among these, the Random Forest model achieved the highest predictive performance, with an accuracy of 76.55%.

2. Identification of Key Risk Factors: The research identified several significant contributors to accident occurrence, including mobile phone usage while driving, lack of vehicle fitness certification, vehicle service history, and khat chewing.

3. Policy-Oriented Recommendations: To support progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 3.6 (reducing traffic-related injuries), the authors recommend targeted safety interventions, including stricter enforcement of driving regulations and mandatory, regular vehicle inspections.

This pivotal research leverages advanced spatial and multilevel analysis to tackle a severe environmental and public health challenge. By mapping out geographic hotspots, the study reveals how poverty, lack of education, and infrastructure deficits drive a staggering 95% reliance on solid fuels in Somalia.

As a two-time top-graduating alumnus and a brilliant applied statistician, Abdirashid embodies the true "Amoudian spirit." His dedication to data-driven research is transforming how we understand public health and sustainability, proving once again that our homegrown talent leads global academic conversations.

Key Highlights of the Study:

1. The Energy Crisis: Identifies a 95.05% prevalence of household solid fuel use, posing severe risks to indoor air quality and public health.

2. Socioeconomic Drivers: Proves that households lacking formal education, electricity, and water access are significantly more reliant on hazardous solid fuels.

3. Data-Driven Policy Shift: Provides spatial mapping of "high-use hotspots" in central and northwestern regions, urging policymakers to target these specific areas with clean energy and infrastructure investments.

The Research and Innovation Center of Amoud University extends its warmest congratulations to our senior researcher in educational leadership and policy studies, Dr. Jibril Abdikadir Ali, and his distinguished co-authors on the publication of their new study in the prestigious International Journal of Educational Development (Elsevier).

Their study, titled "Beyond the average: A machine learning typology for differentiated foundational learning in Somaliland," represents a massive leap forward for our national education system. By utilizing advanced machine learning to analyze the performance of over 5,400 Grade 3 students, this team has moved past the limitations of "average scores," which often mask the real struggles of our children.

Dr. Jibril’s extensive experience in educational leadership and policy studies has been instrumental in providing the in-depth analysis required for this work. This research is of utmost importance to Amoud University and the Somaliland education sector; it provides the evidence-based facts we need to move away from "fiction and fake discussions" and toward real, structural change. We urge all educational stakeholders to gain deep insights from this study to guide the right interventions for our children.

Study Highlights:

1. Discovery of Four Unique Learner Profiles: Using unsupervised machine learning, the study identified four distinct categories of learners, showing that student needs are far more complex than just "high" or "low" scorers

2. Literacy-Numeracy Asymmetry: The research revealed that many students possess "dissociated" skills—for example, being strong in literacy while having major gaps in calculation, or vice versa—requiring specialized, rather than uniform, teaching methods.

3. Impact of Geography and Ownership: The study proved that learner success is heavily tied to school location and whether a school is public or private, highlighting the urgent need for targeted support in rural and public school settings.
