At just 8 years old, Summer Stealth Diaz of The Meridian International Learning Experience made history as the youngest participant in the WR Bughouse Chess Championship 2026 held at the prestigious Grand Hyatt Manila.
The tournament attracted players from 23 foreign federations, including Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Indonesia, Timor-Leste, and the United States, featuring 38 titled players and 10 Grandmasters led by world No. 2 Hikaru Nakamura.
Teaming up with local coach Genghis Imperial as Team Stealth X Genghis, Summer helped the squad register four victories in one of the strongest bughouse chess fields ever assembled in the Philippines. Among his notable achievements, Summer managed to score victories against players representing China and Timor-Leste, an impressive feat considering the elite level of competition.
Displaying grit, composure, and determination well beyond his years, Summer fought hard in every round and proved he could compete with experienced and higher-rated opponents. In a tournament loaded with international talent, every win was hard-earned, making his performance a remarkable accomplishment for the young chess warrior.
