Synopsis

The current regulatory framework mandates the consideration of scientific evidence for food safety and health impacts, with pre-market review serving as the primary mechanism for health claim substantiation. However, the lack of alignment among Asian jurisdictions, unlike in more advanced countries, leaves stakeholders and scientists unaware of potential shortcomings in their R&D designs, failing to meet regulatory expectations. This fragmentation can result in substantial financial losses and missed opportunities for health improvements, particularly concerning the rising Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in the region.

EU Border controls update 🇪🇺

The European Commission has adopted Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/551, amending the annex of Regulation (EU) 2021/632.

🍯 The revision updates the lists of animal-origin products, animal by-products, and composite foods subject to official checks at border control posts. Key categories include honey and composite food products.

🗓️ The regulation will apply from October 2026, reinforcing the EU’s framework for food safety and harmonized border procedures.

At IFT, we follow these regulatory changes closely, recognizing their influence on trade, compliance strategies, and consumer trust.
