A drop. A ripple. A brief stilling of the surface. In early childhood, these small moments matter.

A pause before a story. A breath before a transition. A moment to notice the rain, the wind, or the sound of a bell.

These quiet interruptions help children settle, notice, and return to the world around them with greater ease, awareness, and presence. Over time, they become habits that children carry beyond the classroom and into life.

At Jataka, we see these micro moments as a part of how learning unfolds through our Distinctively Jataka approach.

Today we celebrate Vesak, commemorating the birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana of the Buddha | On this joyous full moon night, we remember the inquisitive and courageous Prince Siddhartha, his journey, and his awakening.

Inspired by his story, we gently radiate wishes of well-being to all living beings:

May all beings be happy.
May all beings be safe.
May all beings be at ease.

For us, Vesak is a reminder that education is about more than simply knowledge. As we prepare to welcome our founding families later this year, we are grateful for the many conditions, people, and acts of generosity that have made The Jataka School possible.

Wishing our community a peaceful and meaningful Vesak.

There are few things quite like the child-like wonder of seeing a full moon in the night sky — glowing, distant, and quietly alive with stillness.

This month, as the full moon rises on 31 May, millions across Asia will celebrate the life of the Buddha Shakyamuni: an inquisitive and courageous prince who left his palace life in search of a deeper understanding of the human experience.

This next full moon, known variously as Visakha Bucha, Vesak, Saga Dawa, or Buddha Purnima, reminds us that the path this young prince set forth 2,500 years ago continues to inspire a living legacy of practice across cultures.

For families looking to embed a little more meaning into this year’s Visakha Bucha holiday here in Thailand, why not share the story of the prince who wished for all beings to be happy, safe, and at ease.

Before bedtime, you might also light or switch on a candle, pause together, look up at the full moon in the night sky, and make a simple shared aspiration:

May all beings be happy.
May all beings be safe.
May all beings feel at ease.

At Jataka, we move beyond traditional modes of observance, and see moments like this as a child’s first experiences of reflection:inspired by the story of this brave prince, we nurture kindness, empathy, and compassion.

A new school does not mean an inexperienced teaching team. At Jataka, we believe there is nothing more important than the people who help shape how children learn, grow, and come to understand themselves and the world around them.

Our founding teaching team brings together 58 years of experience across early childhood, bilingual, and holistic education, alongside 7 postgraduate qualifications in education and leadership.

As a new school, we are proud to begin with a team whose experience, care, and shared vision reflect the kind of learning community we hope to build for years to come.

Recently mentioned in The New York Times () T Magazine’s () “The Prince’s Journey” — a three-part exploration of Buddhism across Nepal, Thailand, and Taiwan, by .

It is an honour to contribute reflections on contemplative practice, education, and the evolution of Buddhist learning traditions.

At Jataka, our whole-child approach to education nurtures curiosity, emotional wellbeing, and meaningful connection to the world around us.

We are interested in how contemporary education increasingly encourages competitiveness and consumption, and how rapidly evolving technologies such as AI are actively shaping our children’s perspectives and worldviews.

Alongside academic excellence, we explore what it might mean to also meaningfully centre qualities such as presence, clarity, compassion, and interdependence.

We look forward to engaging in and contributing to these conversations with families, colleagues, educators, researchers, Buddhist leaders—and of course, children—around the world.
