Over 115 children in Tanzania participated in a World Environment Day activity facilitated by AKU's Institute for Educational Development, East Africa. This was an initiative led by the Master of Education (MEd) students who established an AKU Environmental Club to raise awareness on environmental sustainability. The event saw teachers and learners together with AKU students and staff plant 40 trees and 20 flowers. The University also supplied the schools with dustbins to enable proper waste management.

AKU's Institute for Education Development, East Africa in partnership with Muni University in Arua, Uganda have launched a Diploma programme in Educational Leadership and Management.
The programme, which falls under the Foundations for Learning (F4L) project, will incorporate a blended learning approach envisions to to change the educational leadership style in the West Nile region in Uganda.

An accomplished leader with more than a decade of experience in higher education, Prof Rarieya’s research interests have focused on gender, educational leadership, and faculty development, and has been associated with AKU for 20 years, during which she has contributed to our institution's activities and success as a student, alumna, faculty member, and now dean.
At a time of great institutional growth overshadowed by the global pandemic, she was a key part of QTL's exceptional work bringing many of AKU's programmes online, while also providing foundational training for hundreds of faculty.

As part of our contribution towards environmental conservation, we have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute-TAWIRI to collaborate on studies on wildlife, including pollinators, beekeeping and bee research for livelihood improvement and environmental conservation. The engagement with Tawiri, a parastatal organization under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism responsible for conducting and coordinating wildlife, will see AKU share its Arusha campus land with researchers to investigate important conservation issues and document research findings.
