Before starting to tutor Swahili I had to go and learn it first. I had to teach myself before I could teach others. I didn't just think oh am a Swahili native speaker so I can teach Swahili-oh no! I had to learn it from a teacher's point of view. To this day there are still some topics that I always have to go back to and refresh on before teaching someone (Relatives anyone?! I sincerely do not like that topic 🙈😅). And also to this day am still always looking for ways to teach better, for my students to understand better and faster.
So now having said that let's just say this is an appreciation post for Duolingo! Yes they are prolly competitors but who cares?! Am always encouraging my students to supplement their lessons with other resources and Duolingo is now definitely on my recommended list, I mean what?! That level of teaching and presenting of materials is something else and am just blown away! And yes! am definitely going to incorporate some ideas into my Swahili lessons as well cuz they are definitely working for me.
Ah didn't I tell you? Am learning Mandarin 😆

Ndio mimi 😀
Karibuni sana!
From 2012 till today, took me quite a while to open my own space.
Hello am Elise from Tanzania and languages are my passion.
I've been teaching Swahili, my native language for over 10 years and I honestly cannot remember students from that far back! (Blame it on my sugar eating habits 😆) I should have taught over 100 students by now (more am sure but who's counting!).
Most of my students are from the UK, because that is where I started teaching, Glasgow to be specific. But I have also taught students from the US, Korea, Japan and...I forget 🫣 (really gotta cut down on the sugar!)
I tend to be very friendly and by the end of our working relationship I find myself having made lifelong friendships. eg. I visited the UK in 2023 and spent half the time visiting my ex students at their homes, hanging out and such! Am that kind of tutor, you can't get rid of me if you tried 🤣
If interested in learning Swahili with me at ANY level contact me via email or WhatsApp. Check my open hours as well and kindly note I like to clear my weekends, especially Saturdays.
Cheers!

Thank you for the opportunity, it's a wrap!
This was a different one from the usual, no equipment just 2 interpreters serving one French speaking attendee at the E-MOTIVE event.
Since our client (right next to me in the middle) was from The DRC, we thought it would be a nice touch to customize our service by providing actual native interpreters from The DRC.
Here's to going above and beyond!

Grateful to God, doesn't the big ol' grin just say it all?! 😁

You know the way parents take their kids to work when they are young just for them to see daddy or mommy in their element and get inspired blah blah? Well, my parents never quite managed to do that.
BUT never fear, I took MY PARENTS to work!! 🙈
We were setting up equipment, they were free, I was going, so why not? And am so glad I did it. Check me out busy explaining how this 'very tough' industry works 😊
