Barr. Wendy, I need your advice.I rented an apartment six months ago for 1.7 million Naira and 🙄spent over 500k renovating it to my taste, I didn’t inform my landlord about the renovations, but he was aware because he saw them happening.I changed so many things in the house, all from my pocket. Now, out of nowhere, my landlord just served me a six-month quit notice. I have only spent six months in the apartment and my rent hasn’t even expired ooh🤦

This is unfair. I’ve invested so much in that apartment, and 👩‍⚖️I want to take it up legally. Can I demand a refund of everything I spent on the renovations? I’m ready to move out when my rent expires, but I won’t leave without my money. If my landlord refuses to refund me for the renovations, I’m planning to remove everything I fixed in the apartment before I leave. Please advise me—I’m so upset right now

Raids to detain and deport migrants living in the US without permission are expected to begin under President-elect Donald Trump’s administration. Initially reported to target Chicago, plans may shift after the location was leaked. Trump aims to launch the largest deportation program in US history, prioritizing criminals and gang members, as stated by his "border tsar" Tom Homan. Meanwhile, Elon Musk, set to lead cost-cutting efforts in Trump’s government, vowed to "make America great again," telling supporters at a Washington rally, "This victory is the start... to set the foundation for America to be strong for a century, for centuries, forever." Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th president of the United States on Monday, becoming only the second person in history to serve nonconsecutive terms in the White House.

At least 16 civilians in Nigeria's Zamfara State were killed in a military air strike, after reportedly being mistaken for criminal gangs. The victims included members of local vigilante groups defending villages from armed bandits who are notorious for kidnappings and violence. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) confirmed it had conducted strikes targeting bandits in the area but expressed concern over civilian casualties and announced it would investigate. Amnesty International reported 20 deaths and criticized the military's "reckless" use of force, calling for an impartial inquiry. The incident is one of several air strikes in Nigeria, including one that occurred on Christmas day which have claimed the lives of civilians mistakenly identified as criminals or insurgents. Rights groups have condemned these strikes, highlighting the Nigerian military's failure to protect the lives of the people it serves.

Provisional results indicate that Chad's ruling Patriotic Salvation Movement has secured two-thirds of the seats in the Dec. 29 legislative election, marking the country’s transition to constitutional rule after more than three years under Mahamat Idriss Deby’s leadership. Deby, who took power following the death of his father Idriss Deby Itno, saw his party win 124 of 188 National Assembly seats, with voter turnout at 51.56%. This election, which also included municipal and regional votes, was the first in over a decade. The poll was marred by controversy, as opposition parties, including Succes Masra's Transformateurs, boycotted it over allegations of bias and lack of transparency—claims denied by the government.

The Archbishops and Bishops of Cameroon have called for systemic reform to address the country’s deepening socio-economic and political challenges. The call is contained in a communique issued at the end of their annual seminar in Buea. The bishops highlighted widespread poverty, corruption, mismanagement of public funds, youth unemployment, and prolonged conflicts in the Anglophone Regions, which have left many Cameroonians in despair. They criticized the exploitation of the country’s abundant natural resources and urged the government to ensure transparency, accountability, and equitable development. Appealing for unity, reconciliation, and personal responsibility, the bishops reminded citizens that they are both victims and agents of the crises. They also called for urgent dialogue to end violence and promote peace.

- Congo Executes Over 100 Men, with More Awaiting Ex*****on

KINSHASA, Congo — In the past week, the Congolese government executed 102 men and has another 70 awaiting ex*****on, according to a statement from Justice Minister Constant Mutamba to the Associated Press on Sunday.

The men, aged 18 to 35, were identified as armed robbers and "urban bandits," commonly known as Kulunas. Ex*****ons were carried out at Angenga prison in northwest Congo, with 45 occurring in late December and 57 in the past 48 hours.

Additionally, 70 more individuals recently transferred from Kinshasa to Angenga prison remain in an uncertain status. Late Sunday, Mutamba confirmed the “third batch will be executed,” noting that the first two groups had already faced the death penalty.

The implementation of capital punishment has divided public opinion. Supporters argue it will help restore order and curb urban crime, while critics warn of the risks of abuse and human rights violations.

"We welcome this decision because it will help put an end to urban crime," said Fiston Kakule, a resident of Goma in eastern Congo. "After 8 p.m., you can’t move around freely because of the fear of encountering a Kuluna."
