Museveni, Dangote Back Larger East African Refinery as Uganda Advances Hoima Refinery Ambitions

President Museveni and Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote have backed plans for a larger East African oil refinery while Uganda advances its delayed Hoima refinery project despite years of investor setbacks and disputes with oil firms over refining profits and project viability.

Museveni recently defended the refinery strategy as critical for value addition and energy security, even as the proposed regional mega refinery raises new questions about the future competitiveness of Uganda’s refinery project.
