Brighter Choice Charter Elementary Schools

On Monday we held our last assembly of the year. Hard to believe the school year is coming to a close, but we couldn’t leave without acknowledging some of our most deserving scholars. We came together to honor those who have shown the most growth in Math and ELA in each class. These girls are shining examples of what dedication, hard work and perseverance look like. We’re so proud of you girls!!!

This morning we had our final Breakfast Fit for a Queen to celebrate the scholars who have made the most growth and progress on iReady this school year. We are so proud of all of our girls and cannot wait to see who will be Queens and Princesses next school year!

Today we held our Grades 3-5 Father Daughter Breakfast and we’re so grateful to all the Dads, Step Dads,Grandpas, Uncles, Brothers and Cousins that came to spend the morning with their scholars! I think those smiles say it all 😉💙

Today we took our 5th graders on a special field trip to celebrate their last year at BCCSG. It was a beautiful day without a cloud in the sky and the girls really enjoyed the time we spent together. Thank you for a wonderful field trip!

From the Desk of Principal Mclean…

Dear Brighter Choice Families and Community,

After 13 rewarding years serving as Principal of BCCS Boys, I will be transitioning out of this role.

This decision did not come easily, but with time and reflection, I know that part of leadership is recognizing when it is time to pass the baton and allowing new leadership to continue the important and meaningful work that has been built together. As I reflect on my journey, I am incredibly proud not only of the work we have accomplished together, but also of the tremendous growth I have experienced personally and professionally during my 13 years as principal.

Next school year, BCCS Boys will welcome Mr. George Borum as the school’s leader. Mr. Borum brings nearly 20 years of charter school experience in Albany-area schools and a strong record of leadership in academics, school culture, and scholar development. Additional communication and opportunities to meet Mr. Borum will be shared with our Brighter Choice Community in the coming weeks.

Serving the scholars, families, and staff of BCCS Boys has been one of the greatest honors of my professional life. While this chapter is ending, I look forward with optimism and gratitude to what the next chapter will bring for BCCS-Boys.

Today we held our annual Diversity Day Parade!!! We apologize if you got caught in traffic as we shut down Central Ave for a couple of minutes. It was a perfect day to show Albany that our Diversity doesn’t divide us, it only makes us stronger. Thank you to all the families who came out and marched with us. We are so proud of all the different cultures that are represented at Brighter Choice! 🌎✨💪🏾
