Juneteenth commemorates the day enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas finally learned they were free, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. But freedom delayed is freedom denied. And the work didn't end there. As we move through the holiday weekend, remember the work remains. What's one way you'll carry this forward?

Juneteenth is more than a date. It's a reminder of what Black communities have always known: freedom is worth celebrating, protecting, and fighting for. These photos span from 1900 celebration bands to Gordon Parks' documentation of Black life in the 1940s sharing a story of community, dignity, and resilience.

Happy Juneteenth. Let's start with this truth. Freedom isn't something we're given. It's something we build. This Juneteenth, we're reflecting on what freedom as action means in our communities.
