Our RaiderVet Veterinary Technician CE Event was a huge success!

We were thrilled to welcome 46 participants to our recent CE event, including 12 from our Clinical Partner sites. Veterinary technicians and assistants spent the day learning essential clinical skills from our outstanding faculty, staff, and guest speakers—training they can take directly back to their practices.

A heartfelt thank‑you to everyone who attended and to our generous sponsors, Nestlé Purina, Hill’s Pet Nutrition, IDEXX, and MWI Animal Health, for making this two-day event possible.

Just like livestock and wildlife, companion animals are also susceptible to New World screwworm (NWS), especially if they spend a lot of time outside.

Whether you are in a NWS-infested zone or not, the TAHC recommends all owners monitor their companion animals for suspicious wounds and signs of NWS. Talk to your vet about preventative products to use now and stay updated with Texas-specific NWS information on the TAHC NWS page: https://bit.ly/TAHC-NWS

In the fight against New World screwworm (NWS), there is no substitute for putting eyes on your animals and looking at them closely for wounds and infestations. However, there are tools in the toolbox to prevent the impacts of NWS.

➡️Maintain fly control, reduce biting flies, and prevent ticks with an integrated pest management strategy
➡️Utilize topical wound sprays and available barrier ointments to encourage wound healing
➡️Systemic treatments, when used appropriately, can prevent infestations

Worried about a quarantine? New World screwworm movement restriction zones work much different than other infectious disease quarantines.

✅Animals can still move! Animals are able to move into and out of the zone as soon as they meet TAHC requirements.

✅Checkpoints are quick and simple! Trailers moving through an infested zone must stop at TAHC checkpoints. If animals are coming from outside of an infested zone and intend to keep moving through the zone to an address outside of the zone, they will receive educational outreach and be allowed to keep moving.

✅TAHC will work with you to avoid interrupting continuity of business! Call the TAHC as soon as you know you want to move animals out of an infested zone. We will schedule an inspection and advise you on how to meet requirements to keep your animals moving safely.

Our RaiderVets are learning to be leaders!

Several of our RaiderVet faculty and students attended the Veterinary Leadership Experience (VLE) in Post Falls, Idaho. This program is dedicated to personal growth and developing future leaders in the veterinary profession.

Through hands-on activities, meaningful discussions, and connections with veterinary professionals and students from around the world, they gained valuable insights to bring back to our School!

Fourth-year RaiderVet Aylin Caballero is spending her first clinical rotation at Del Rio Veterinary Diagnostic Hospital!

Learning from Drs. Clay Whitten and Erin Alexander in Del Rio, Aylin has independently performed physical exams, helped formulate diagnostic and treatment plans, and assisted with surgeries.
