There may be a chance of change in the future.🎉

In a 2025 survey, over three quarters of Alaskans agreed that there needs to be a state-wide anti-discrimination law covering sexual orientation and gender identity. In order to achieve this goal, please remember to vote and stay educated about your local politicians.

Be part of the change you want to see! 🗳

Now for some more positive news! 🍼

Adoption and surrogacy for same-sex couples is, in most cases, treated the same as for opposite-sex couples. Both of these processes can be quite complex, but knowing that someone’s sexual orientation does not add additional stress can give them peace of mind.

Using the correct name and pronouns provides a lot of comfort and affirmation to transgender people. 🏳️‍⚧️

While it is possible for trans individuals in Alaska to change their name and gender on most of their documents, that does not come with a full erasure of their previous identity.

For more resources about the process of correcting the name and gender identity on your documents, visit: https://transequality.org/documents/alaska-identity-documents

Ready to learn more? 🧠

Often times, even if a law isn’t covered by the state, it is covered by federal law. This can make knowing your rights very difficult. This is the case with whether or not discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity counts as a hate crime.

In terms of conversion therapy, it is unfortunately still legal within the state. Though luckily minors are protected against it.

LGBTQIA2S+ rights may not be as advanced as they could be in Alaska, but steps in the right direction are constantly being made. It’s important to stay vigilant, vote, and find joy regardless.✨
