Ok we love Alanis and this song…but this would be a great example of supporting the voice with the wrong muscles. You can see here how so many different muscle groups and trying to help her with the higher pitches, as she’s tossing her head back, wiggling her legs, moving her shoulders….I always say our instincts are correct that we need more muscle, but let’s rely on the BIG GUNS of our abdominal muscles and relieve the poor neck, jaw, and shoulders who are working overtime!!

Beautiful words from a phenomenal singer. Thank you Lisette!!!
Singers are athletes! And I love this one. ❤️ She is a phenomenal light soprano voice that has maintained a wonderful and long career…look how she does it! What a great example for all of us.

This right here. You are never too old! Most of my studio is now adults who loved music when they were younger and are coming back to it again for the sheer love of it and it’s so wonderful to see their enthusiasm and help them get better and gain confidence through something they love so much.

Wow!
Here’s the point:
High notes aren’t something you “build stamina” on by hammering them. They’re something you prepare for with smart technique and controlled dosage.
If you’re pounding away at top pitches over and over, it’s basically the tissue equivalent of rubbing your hands together a thousand times per second and expecting no irritation.
Use your high notes strategically.
Train the mechanism daily.
Don’t over-practice the part of the voice that’s doing the fastest, highest-load work.
Your folds will thank you.
Impressive! I don’t know if I could do that!
Good advice!! And I love her accent!!
