Congratulations to Jason Edwards, public service faculty member in the UGA Fanning Institute for Leadership, for receiving the Emerging Professional Award at the International Town and Gown Association (ITGA) conference in College Station, Texas! This award recognizes early-career professionals who demonstrate leadership in building partnerships, addressing community challenges and fostering collaboration between higher education institutions and local communities.
It is fitting that Edwards was recognized given his ongoing work in youth leadership development through programs such as the UGA-CCSD Sports & Tutoring Program, Innovate U and Georgia Possible, which help students develop leadership skills, build confidence and explore future educational and career opportunities.
Fun fact: This is the third year in a row ITGA has awarded UGA one of its five annual awards! It just goes to show the University’s deep commitment to community engagement and university-community partnerships. 🤩

University of Georgia students are helping young athletes in Clarke County elementary schools build confidence on the court and in the classroom through Coaching4Success, a partnership program between the UGA’s Office of Service-Learning and the Clarke County School District. The program expands youth sports opportunities while fostering a growth mindset and a love of learning among fourth- and fifth-grade student athletes.
During the 2025-26 school year, 59 UGA student volunteers served nearly 560 total hours during more than 120 visits to eight schools. This time gave them the chance to serve as mentors and role models for more than 500 local elementary students.
