Open to all current parents regardless of faith tradition, the initiative includes two on-campus educational sessions and two small-group gatherings focused on the origin story of Marist School and its continuing mission to form young people in the image of Christ. One of the most meaningful moments of graduation morning came before the procession even began as Marist School class presidents Ansley Sooji Cho ’26 and Regis-Lucien Edem Nassah ’26 rang the new Bell Chapel bell for the first time, inaugurating a new school tradition and opening commencement exercises for the Class of 2026. The moment represented the culmination of a remarkable community effort that began earlier this school year when the Marist community surpassed its campaign goal to fully fund the Bell Chapel project. Supported by more than 260 donors and strengthened by a transformational leadership gift from a Marist family, the project gave the school’s historic bell a permanent home in Alumni Plaza while creating a meaningful connection between Marist’s present campus and its Ivy Street roots. For decades, the bell has signaled the close of Emmaus retreats and stood as a symbol of faith, reflection, and community. On graduation day, it quickly became clear that the Bell Chapel had already woven itself into the life of the school in a new and powerful way. Following commencement, Student Council co-presidents Ryan Akin ’26 and Cece Watson ’26 rang the bell and then invited their fellow graduates to do the same. Surrounded by families and friends, our newest alumni took turns gleefully tolling the bell, turning the new Marist landmark into one of the most joyful and memorable gathering places of the day. Marist School students demonstrated exceptional achievement this spring on the National Spanish Exam and the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) National Poster Contest. Students in Spanish III Honors, Spanish IV Honors, and AP Spanish earned top honors across multiple categories, including five Gold Medal recipients.
Javi Fernandez ’27 and Gaëtan Glorieux ’28 earned Gold Medals in Spanish III Honors. Ryan Hewitt ’27, Lauren Thornton ’27, and Abe Thomas ’27 earned Gold Medals in Spanish IV Honors. Marist students also earned numerous Silver, Bronze, and Honorable Mention recognitions across upper-level Spanish courses. Isabella Jones ’28 placed second nationally in the AATSP National Poster Contest.
Before the close of the school year, the Modern and Classical Languages Department hosted a Breakfast of Champions to celebrate all medalists and poster contest winners. The event also welcomed back Brent Porter ’25, former president of the Spanish Honor Society and 2025 Sedes Sapientiae award recipient, to encourage and honor this year’s students.
These accomplishments reflect the dedication of our students and faculty. They also embody what it means to be Marist made for growth through scholarship and the pursuit of excellence.
