The LGBTQ+ and disability communities overlap significantly. LGBTQ+ people are more likely to have a disability than non-LGBTQ+ people. 36% of U.S. adults who are LGBTQ+ also have a disability.
Talking and raising awareness about LGBTQ+ people with disabilities is so important. Share this post to educate more people about the intersectionality of both the LGBTQ+ and disability communities!
ID: The image features a minimalist design with a white background. Dominating the upper portion, there is a large, dark blue semicircle displaying the bold white text "36%". Below this, there is a line of text in gray font that reads: "This is the percentage of US", followed by "adult LGBTQ+ people" in pink, and concluding with "who have a disability." in gray with "disability" in pink. The top right corner has the BDI logo. Sporadically placed across the background, there are several circles in pink, teal, and gray, providing subtle decorative elements.

The staff of LIFE Behavior Consulting wishes everyone a happy Pride month! Pride was first celebrated on June 28, 1970, to honor the first anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, a series of events between LGBTQIA+ protesters and police at the Stonewall Inn in Manhattan. We honor and appreciate the legacy of q***r activists and will continue to advocate for, celebrate, and uplift the LGBTQIA+ community! π³οΈβπ π³οΈββ§οΈ

Couldn't agree more with this.
Disability is not a monolith. It is diverse, nuanced, and beautifully unique. π₯πβ¨
When people think of the word "disability," they often default to a single, generalized image. But the truth is, the disability community is the largest and most intersectional minority group in the world, crossing every race, age, gender, and socioeconomic background.
Every single individual has their own lived experiences, perspectives, and opinions.
Generalizing or placing a community of over 1 billion people into a single box completely erases their individuality. True inclusion means honoring those unique perspectives and recognizing that there is no "one size fits all" approach to access, advocacy, or lived experience. π£οΈπ₯
Letβs commit to listening to individual stories rather than making blanket assumptions. Stop generalizing. Start learning.
How are you actively amplifying diverse voices in your community or industry? Letβs talk in the comments! ππΎ

Today marks the 15th annual Global Accessibility Awareness Day, observed on the third Thursday in May! The purpose of this day is to raise awareness of digital access and inclusion for people with disabilities or impairments.
According to the GAAD website, "Digital accessibility refers to the ability of people with disabilities/impairments to independently consume and/or interact with digital (e.g., web, mobile) applications and content." Accessibility in the digital space is crucial because it is more inclusive for disabled people and removes any barriers that prohibit them from accessing and understanding online content.
For more info, visit the GAAD website: https://accessibility.day/
Let's all make strides towards making online spaces more accessible and inclusive for all! π₯οΈ π± π
