This month, the Atlanta Board of Education proudly recognized 4 outstanding APS counselors whose schools earned Recognized ASCA Model Program honors at Sutton Middle School and Humphries Elementary, introduced the 2026-2027 Student Advisory Council, and celebrated our amazing APS Warehouse Teams in Facilities & IT for their dedication.

Special congratulations to McKenna K. Baskett, crowned the 2025-2026 Royal International Miss Pre-Teen! It’s an honor to celebrate the incredible individuals and teams making APS shine brighter every day.

We love when our students give back! Just before graduating from Midtown High School, a few seniors visited David T. Howard Middle School for a powerful “big sis/little sis” mentorship conversation.

Students engaged in conversations about honors coursework at Midtown and shared their experiences with 8th-grade girls about academics, leadership, balance, and future college pathways!

The discussion was full of honesty, encouragement, and connection, with students offering real insight and inspiration. What A meaningful full-circle moment for many of our seniors and a strong step toward building lasting mentorship between schools!

Maynard Jackson High School joyfully welcomed Mrs. Valerie Jackson as a special guest for the inaugural Maynard Jackson Week, a celebration honoring the groundbreaking legacy of Atlanta’s first African American mayor.

Mrs. Jackson spoke with students and staff about her husband’s lasting impact on the Atlanta community, the values and experiences that influenced his leadership, and the causes he believed were most important. Her words offered a meaningful reflection on Maynard Jackson’s commitment to service, opportunity, and the creation of lasting change for future generations.

Meet Analise Edwards, our May Student of the Month 🌟! A proud member of the Class of 2028 at Maynard Jackson High School, Analise is a 4.3 GPA student, leader, and dedicated volunteer who is already making a positive impact both inside and outside the classroom.
From leading student organizations and excelling in the arts 🎶 to serving her community through meaningful volunteer work ❤️, she embodies what it means to lead with purpose. Analise’s passion for helping others, commitment to excellence, and determination to create positive change make her a shining example of student success.
