What began as a literary idea exploring immigration and womanhood has grown into Associate Professor of English Justin Haynes' award-winning novel "Ibis." His witty and vibrant prose has now earned major recognition through prestigious literary awards, including the PEN Open Book Award and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize's Art Seidenbaum Award for First Fiction.

For Sophia Sobrino '24, the time she spent as a curatorial intern at the Oglethorpe University Museum of Art was instrumental in preparing her for her current role as Coordinator of Gallery Learning at the High Museum of Art, Atlanta. Working at OUMA gave Sobrino the skills she needed to thrive in the museum field. She had the opportunity to assist with exhibition curation, create memorable visitor experiences, and interpret intricate artwork.

Though their majors are different, four Oglethorpe students shared the same transformative experience participating in The King Center Scholars Program this past year. The eight-month program challenged and enlightened students, deepening their understanding of Dr. King's philosophy of nonviolence.
