“Through my work at Communities in Schools of Atlanta, I see how what happens outside of the classroom shows up inside of it. That matters because it invests in the conditions students need to thrive.” — Khari Crooms 💛
Khari’s journey with CIS Atlanta has come full circle. Once a CIS Atlanta student himself, he now serves as a Site Coordinator at Fickett Elementary School (Atlanta Public Schools), supporting the next generation of students with the same care and encouragement that helped shape his own path.
Last month, Khari brought that perspective to Atlanta City Hall as an ambassador for the Atlanta Neighborhood Reinvestment Initiative, helping elevate conversations around equity, opportunity, and long-term community growth.
🙌 We’re proud to see former students become leaders, advocates, and changemakers in their communities.

Communities In Schools of Atlanta is honored to have been recently featured by Atlanta Business Chronicle for the continued growth of our Alumni Program and our commitment to supporting students long after they leave high school.
College persistence takes more than acceptance letters. Through mentorship, emergency financial support, community, and ongoing guidance, we help students navigate the barriers that can impact their path to graduation and future success.
We believe every student deserves the opportunity to thrive—not just in school, but in life. 💙
Thank you to Crystal Edmonson and Atlanta Business Chronicle for sharing this story and spotlighting the impact of continued student support.

“She always reminded me not to give up — even when things got hard.” 💙🎓
“I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Ms. Johnson. She always pushed me to do my best and made me feel like someone truly believed in me. Because of her, I’ve become more confident and motivated about my future.”
— Jazlyn, CIS Atlanta student
📍 Langston Hughes High School | Fulton County Schools
🎓 Attending Savannah State University this fall
At CIS Atlanta, we know that relationships change outcomes. Jazlyn’s story reflects the power of consistent support and trusted adults who walk alongside students every step of the way.
We’re so proud of you, Jazlyn—and grateful to Melissa Johnson, CIS Site Coordinator, for the lasting impact she continues to make.

"Four years ago, I never imagined I’d be here...
I didn’t think I would come to this point where I’d be part of such a big community. My social skills and speech weren’t always strong, and I struggled with talking to people or making friends.
During my senior year at Langston Hughes High School (Fulton County Schools), I had the privilege of meeting Ms. Johnson, my CIS Site Coordinator. She pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and was always a shoulder to lean on during my gloomy days.
I don’t think I would’ve achieved as much this year without her and without CIS. Thank you for believing in me.”
— Shalom Grace Tonnonhi 🎓
Moments like this remind us why relationships are at the heart of everything we do at CIS Atlanta. 💛

Big milestones start early. 🎓✨
Last week, we were proud to celebrate 5th-grade moving-on day at G. W. Northcutt Elementary School (Clayton County Public Schools), recognizing students as they prepare to take their next step into middle school.
These students are part of the CIS Atlanta program at Northcutt, and are supported by Andre Malone, CIS Atlanta Site Coordinator, who shows up consistently to build relationships and support students through key moments of growth.
At Communities In Schools of Atlanta, we believe transitions matter—and we’re honored to walk alongside students as they grow, progress, and move forward with confidence. 💙
