Kids Ages 10-12 join Equity Kids for a special Juneteenth program where we will talk about justice, what it means, and how it relates to the Juneteenth holiday. Our workshops feature fun and thought-provoking activities and discussions exploring different aspects of race for school-aged children and their families.
Ignite your inner activist in this interactive hour of discussion and discovery designed for the next generation of leaders. Drawing on the brave story of Opal Lee, we’ll dive into the importance of being a voice for justice and freedom for everyone in our communities, and why Juneteenth is a joyous holiday for all Americans to celebrate. We’ll discuss what equality, equity, and liberation mean in our own communities, and how we can turn inspiration into action.
Equity Kids is working with the next generation to explore ways of rejecting racism to make racial injustice a thing of the past. We accomplish this by creating racially and culturally diverse learning communities where children build cross-racial friendships while exploring race and culture.

"My clinical background in trauma-informed care has taught me that true equity is about more than access; it is about creating spaces where every child feels a genuine sense of safety and belonging. In this leadership role, I am excited to champion a 'healing-centered' approach to our programming."
Henry is hitting the ground running for our New Mexico Juneteenth workshops with the Santa Fe Public Library on June 17th and 18th. This Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Equity Kids honors Patsy Mink, the first woman of color and first Asian-American woman elected to Congress. As the champion of Title IX, Mink revolutionized the American educational system by prohibiting sex-based discrimination and ensuring gender is not a barrier to opportunity. Her legacy of advocacy opened doors for generations of students, and by celebrating trailblazers like Mink, we at Equity Kids continue our commitment to shaping a more equitable and fair future for all children.

Today's a double celebration! 🧒📚 It’s Día de los niños (Children’s Day) and Día de los libros (Book Day)! Originating in Mexico in 1925, the celebration has also spread in libraries across the U.S. thanks to authors like Pat Mora who recognize the importance of reading, books and libraries in the lives of all children.
At Equity Kids, we love this day because it also emphasizes the importance of honoring each child's unique culture and home language in their development of language, cognitive, and literacy skills.
How can you celebrate your children today?
📖 Visit a library and borrow books!
🖼️ Attend free children's programs at your local library!
🎶 Read, talk, sing, write and play with them every day!
And share the bilingual picture book Book Fiesta! by Pat Mora with your little ones to teach them about this special day. https://buff.ly/gArqtt6

"Seeing the impact that it's created — our father-daughter relationship, being a Black dad and daughter — has really put into perspective how important representation is in what we do." Aura Valentina Simmons, aka Aura V, and her father, Harold Simmons II, made history at the Grammy's this year, with Aura V at 8 years old becoming the youngest person to ever win a Grammy award. Aura V and her father won best children's album for their music about inclusion, love, and positivity.
In "I Am Love, I Am Light," Aura sings, "I love myself, I love me."
"I like to sing about that because it's empowering," Aura said. "It gives hope to people."

Stitching history, resilience, and justice into every thread. 🧵✨
Did you know that the original Freedom Quilting Bee was born in 1966 as an outgrowth of the Civil Rights Movement? In Wilcox County, Alabama, Black families were being evicted and losing their jobs simply for registering to vote. In the face of this injustice, a group of courageous women turned their artistry into an economic engine. Although the original cooperative didn't survive into the 21st century, Freedom Quilting Bee Legacy carries on their mission by:
✅ Preserving the history of these "odds-beating" women and men
✅ Creating economic opportunities for a new generation of artisans
✅ Providing community solutions like internet access and voter registration
Equity Kids honors the quilters of the Bee for teaching us that art is activism, and legacy is something we build together. Learn more about their journey: fqblegacy.org

If that speaks to you, we'd love to hear from you.
