St. Medard was a 6th-century French bishop known for his profound charity toward the poor. According to legend, when he was caught in a severe rainstorm as a child, a large eagle hovered overhead and spread its wings to shield him from the downpour. This miraculous story led to his recognition as the patron saint for protection against bad weather, including storms, hurricanes, and floods.
