One of the most common questions I get this time of year:
“Why is my heart rate so much higher than normal?”
Before assuming you’ve lost fitness, consider the environment. Heat, humidity, dehydration, and exercise duration can all contribute to cardiac drift, a normal physiological response where heart rate rises despite maintaining the same pace or power.
This is one reason I look at more than just heart rate when reviewing training. Pace, power, perceived effort, weather conditions, and training history all provide important context. Summer training often requires a different interpretation of the data than winter training.
Have you noticed your heart rate climbing during outdoor workouts lately?

open water swims are back at Pflugerville Lake! Thank you for hosting open water events where triathletes have a place to safely practice in the open water with others. What a treat!
I had a great time helping some first timers on the 200m duck course and spent quality swim time with a group of R3 Endurance athletes. See you next time?

Congrats to R3E athletes this weekend! completed her first half Ironman 70.3 at Eagleman! It has been great to see the progress she has made this past year going from her first ever sprint tri to a 70.3. And completed a 5k with a PR! What a great weekend 🙌🏼💪🏼

You may be fitter than you were at the start of the season, but are you still training with the right zones?’
One of the biggest mistakes I see triathletes make is setting their training zones in the winter or spring and never updating them.
After months of consistent training and racing, your fitness changes. If your zones don’t change with it, your workouts may not be giving you the adaptation you’re looking for.
Easy days become harder than they should be (or easier into recovery vs. aerobic)
Hard days may not be hard enough.
For many athletes, this is the perfect time of year to retest. Spring races are behind us, recovery has happened, and it’s time to build toward fall goals with updated numbers.
Swipe through to see if it’s time to test.
When was the last time you updated your run or bike zones?

I wanted to showcase my friend (and marathoner!) and all the photo shoots she has helped me with over the years of growing R3 Endurance. She is professional, efficient (I always get photos back fast!), and comes up with great ideas. If you live in the Round Rock/North Austin area, I highly recommend Sachi for your business, family, or sports photos!
