Thank you to all who spoke against Items 40 & 41, signed up, contacted their councilmembers, and amplified this case๐Ÿ’—

The development would have included no true affordability component - โ€œaffordableโ€ units were promised to families of four with an up-to-80% yearly Median Family Income (MFI) which is $90,000. The MFI for families in Montopolis is 40%, less than $50,000; we need deeply affordable housing now, and we need housing for longtime residents who fight to remain in Montopolis and other communities in the eastern crescent across generations.

In this teach in, weโ€™ll learn about the history off affordable housing in Austin, where we are, and how we can make affordable housing in Austin TRULY affordable. ๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Excited to join a community organizing panel hosted by and to talk about how we use social media as a tool for organizing, political education, and narrative power.

Through collective work with Community Powered ATX, weโ€™ve used digital storytelling, reels, infographics, and teach-ins to break down housing policy, affordability, displacement, and land use in ways that are accessible and rooted in lived experience. Social media isnโ€™t just content, itโ€™s a strategy to shift narratives, build collective understanding, and move people into action.

Weโ€™ll also be sharing how weโ€™ve woven this into from producing the East Side Fellows podcast to using arts, culture, and storytelling to connect housing, environmental justice, and culture. Grateful to be in conversation about how digital tools can strengthen real-world power. See yโ€™all there. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ”ฅ
