What does it take to save our local wilderness? For Wild Basin, it took seven extraordinary women! 👒✨
👉Swipe through to learn about our history as Austin’s first nature preserve!!

In 1976, the seven extraordinary women took on a massive bicentennial project. Their goal: to save this land from being turned into a 300-home subdivision. 🌿📊📄

Thanks to their grassroots efforts and the community support they rallied, this 227-acre wilderness was secured for all of us to enjoy today. We are so grateful for these trailblazers! 🥾💚

Their legacy lives on every time you step foot on our trails. Help us continue their mission by visiting or supporting the preserve! 🪵👣

What makes Wild Basin special? It’s all in the name. 📝

We’re continuing our “Things You Should Know” series by sharing an most important distinction: Wild Basin is a preserve, not a park. 🌟🌲🌿

While a park is primarily designed for recreation and leisure, a preserve like Wild Basin is dedicated to protecting vital natural resources and ecosystems. We protect native Texas Hill Country habitats that support wildlife and plant species. 🦎✨

Thank you for following along, helping us protect this irreplaceable wilderness, and sustaining this mission for 50 years and counting! See you on the trails! 🥾💚
