Happy Father’s Day! 💙

Dads do so much to support their families. We chatted with local dad JC about what affordable child care means for his family.

We’re proud to partner with child care center Global Kids Preschool and other organizations so more dads can stay in the workforce, pursue their goals, and know their kids are safe and happy. 💪

We dream big. 💭

That was the theme of this year’s staff retreat, which is why you’ll see us in our pajamas and comfy clothes today.

As a team, we spent time reflecting on the past year, aligning around our goals for the year ahead, and discussing how we can continue working together to create lasting change in Central Texas.

A special thank you to our special guest, Pam Benson Owens, for leading a team-building activity and thank you to Austin Community College District for providing the space for our retreat.

We’re feeling energized and looking forward to the year ahead. 💙

Advocacy starts with listening, learning, and working together. 💪

Last week, we were proud to co-host From Central Texas to the Capitol, at Austin PBS bringing together nonprofit leaders, advocates, and community partners to discuss the important issues impacting children and families ahead of the 90th Texas Legislative Session.

Thank you to our wonderful team Jessica Luckey, Kara Hedlund, Aaron N. DeLaO, and Alison Bentley, Ph.D. for their contributions to this successful event, and thank you to everyone who joined us ready to learn, collaborate, and advocate.

Together, as a community, we’re building a stronger voice and collective for the families and children who need it most. 💙

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Cathy McHorse, an early childhood champion in Central Texas. We join you in the deep grieving of this extraordinary individual.

Her passing is a sudden and profound loss for our community, and for the many friends, family members, and colleagues she and her husband, Ed, held so closely.

A decades‑long advocate for early childhood education, Cathy leaves behind a legacy that will impact children, families, teachers, and our community for generations. Her leadership, advocacy, and deep commitment shaped not just Success By 6 and United Way, but Raising Travis County and our entire early childhood system.

As many in our community move to honor Cathy this weekend, we at United Way hold her family and the community she cared for in our thoughts and extend our deepest compassion to them during this time.

We will carry Cathy’s spirit forward in the children she championed, the systems she shaped, and the community she loved so deeply.

Austin, we need your help! 📢

We have boxes and boxes of diapers ready to be sorted and delivered to local child care centers, and we’re looking for volunteers to lend a hand.

Our diaper drives are a simple, low-effort way to support families and early childhood educators in our community. Volunteers sort diapers by size, choose a participating child care center, and deliver them directly where they’re needed most.

We’re so happy Becca could take time to talk about the STEP (Support for Thriving Employees Program) with y’all! This program is helping Central Texas families grow their income without falling off the “benefits cliff” and helping employers better support and retain workers along the way.

STEP is designed for ALICE families – Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed – households that are working but still struggling to keep up with the real cost of living. The benefits cliff happens when even a small income increase causes the loss of public benefits like SNAP or housing assistance. The value of their new income is less than the value of their benefits, leaving them with fewer resources right when they’re trying to get ahead.

STEP helps bridge that gap so more families can confidently pursue career growth and better opportunities, which also helps employers build a stronger, more stable workforce.

Read more about the program and why we’re excited about its impact on our blog at https://unitedwayaustin.org/step-pilot/
