Meet The Mosaic Workshop: Austin Wolters 🎸🌿

Austin is a third-generation Texan with roots in both DFW and Austin, now calling Lockhart home. Creativity has always been a part of his life, from learning multiple instruments growing up to exploring artistic mediums like ceramics, painting, and now mosaics.

🎶 Music sparked his creative journey, but his curiosity has led him down many artistic paths. Most recently, he’s discovered a passion for mosaic art and enjoys introducing others to the medium at TMW!

🌱 Outside the studio, you’ll find Austin exploring nature, spending time with animals, staying active through fitness and basketball, or making memories with family and friends. He finds inspiration in the world around him and brings that same appreciation and positive energy into the studio every day.

Emma S Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center, Austin, TX

Created with the Caminos program’s LatinX teen interns, La Mujer celebrates the strong and iconic female figures in the Hispanic community. The mural features figures including Emma S. Barrientos herself, Dolores Huerta, and Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, alongside cultural symbols such as monarch butterflies and marigolds. 🌻🦋 After six months of collaborative work, the piece was installed in 2022 at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center in Austin.

Meet The Mosaic Workshop: Randi 🧚⚔️

A born-and-raised Austinite, Randi discovered mosaics just over a year ago after taking an Intro Class here at the workshop! One mosaic led to another, and before long she made the leap from corporate life to pursuing art full-time.

🎨 Since then, she’s participated in pop-up markets, gallery shows, and joined the workshop team as both a teacher and studio assistant. Her work draws heavily from fantasy, folklore, fairy tales, making each of her pieces truly magical 🔮

🛼 Before mosaics, Randi spent time as a roller derby skater under the name Widowmaker. These days she’s into tabletop games, rewatching The Lord of the Rings, playing the flute, or hanging out with her three beloved pets.

Fun fact: Her favorite medieval siege weapon is Grond, and her favorite trees are Silver Birch and Southern Magnolia. 🌳

FREE COMMUNITY WORKDAY! 📍Los Alamos, NM

We’re headed out to New Mexico this weekend to host a community mosaic mural workday! 🏜️🎨
Come out Jun 5th-7th to the Mesa Public Library to help create a massive public art piece for the community!

This piece was commissioned by the City of Los Alamos and will be displayed at the Justice Center wall along Trinity Drive! 🙌

Yesterday, we held a FREE coaster pop-up in part of the Legends Project Exhibit that’s showing at the Austin Public Library! 🖼️

HUGE thanks to all of the library volunteers who helped make this day a success! Shoutout to Nicole who organized the show and the event, and volunteers Cathy, Paola, and KJ!! 💛
