Grisham Band

Congratulations to our 2025-2026 Honors Band as they received 1st place today in the second round of the TMEA Honor Band Contest.

The Area round in Dallas was adjudicated by a panel of judges who listened to submitted recordings from 13 bands across Area D.

The Grisham Honors Band will advance to the State Semi-Final round in San Antonio in July at the Texas Bandmasters Association annual conference.

This round was adjudicated by a panel of judges who listened to submitted recordings from bands within Region 26. The Grisham Honors Band will advance to the area round in Dallas later this month.

We are hiring! The Westwood Vertical Learning Community has an opening for a French Horn teacher for the upcoming school year! This position includes the opportunity to teach at Grisham, Canyon Vista, and Westwood High School! Total studio: approximately 50 private students.

Congratulations to our Outstanding Soloists from Solo & Ensemble this past Saturday! These students were chosen by our judges for having a truly outstanding solo performance!

It takes a village! We held our annual End of Year Celebration last night and we are so grateful to all of our incredible parents that spent time making this night possible! A huge shoutout to our organizers Supriya Ferris and Melissa McDowell for putting so much time and effort into this event and for making our 8th graders feel so special! They have truly gone above and beyond for the Grisham Band!

Tonight at our Spring Concert, the Grisham Band program was presented with the National Band Association’s Program of Excellence Blue Ribbon Award. This distinction recognizes exceptional band programs across the United States that demonstrate excellence and depth across the program. The Grisham Band was named the only middle school band program in the nation this year to receive this award and honor. Our Honors Band was so lucky today to get to perform in the beautiful Round Top Festival Institute! They had a truly incredible and memorable performance and had the opportunity to work with Professor Jerry Junkin and Dr. Henderson from The University of Texas at Austin.

What is your proudest accomplishment in middle school?
My proudest accomplishment has been performing at The Midwest Clinic two years in a row.

What are you most looking forward to at Westwood HS?
I am most looking forward to playing sax quartets with my friends.

What is your favorite Grisham Band memory so far?
The Midwest Clinic trips.

What advice do you have for incoming 6th graders?
Put the work in early and take band seriously, you won't regret it.

Westwood Warrior Band

This past weekend our Advanced Bands competed in San Antonio while on our annual Spring Trip. We were so lucky to perform in the beautiful Tobin Center!

Our Symphonic Band received awards for a Division I performance, as well as for Outstanding Performance.

Our Honors Band received those two awards plus awards for Best in Class and Best in Festival.

Outstanding Soloist Awards were given to Ryan Huang, Aaron Hu, and Marco Orozco.
