One more School Board recognition before the year is out! 🎉 An Above & Beyond the Call of Duty Award goes to the School Resource Officer for Bend Tech Academy, Bend Senior High School, and other eastside schools - Officer John Horvath.

He just completed his second year as an SRO, and in that short time he has become an important part of our school communities. From day one, he jumped right into the school culture, whether it was shaking pom-poms alongside staff and helping welcome the football team onto the field or simply being present for students every day. His approachable personality and genuine commitment to our schools quickly earned the trust and respect of both students and staff.

This spring, John demonstrated that same commitment in a deeply meaningful way. After noticing a collection of broken and abandoned bicycles at BTA, he took it upon himself to gather them, purchase parts, and spend his own personal time repairing and rebuilding the bikes. Once restored, he quietly donated them to students who could benefit from reliable transportation.

Officer Horvath’s compassion, generosity, and commitment to helping students overcome barriers reflect the very best of Bend-La Pine Schools. In recognition of his extraordinary service and dedication to others, we are honored to present him with the Above and Beyond the Call of Duty Award.

🚍 At the end of May, the Bend-La Pine Schools Transportation team put their skills to the test at the 2026 Oregon Pupil Transportation Association Statewide Road-eo. And they delivered an impressive performance!

This annual competition showcases the knowledge, precision, and safety expertise of school bus drivers from across Oregon. Several of our drivers earned spots at Nationals, where they'll compete alongside the top drivers from across North America.

We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and care our Transportation team brings to the road every day. Thank you for helping keep our students safe and supported on their journey to and from school. 🏆

We couldn’t miss sharing this sweet moment from last week’s Grad Walk at Lava Ridge Elementary. Four graduating seniors recreated a photo from their fifth-grade year — same colors, same smiles, and the same lasting friendship. 🥹

To Braydon Freeman, Carter Van Horn, Eli Towne, and Jaxon Blumberg, thank you for sharing this special moment with us. May the bond you’ve built over the years continue to support and inspire you as you begin this exciting new chapter.

Congratulations, Class of 2026! 🎓
